Lets Talk About! Resident Evil 4

I Tried Playing Resident Evil 7 Again! And It Still Fucking Sucks

Spread the Word!

I have now owned Resident Evil 7 3 times and I’ve refunded it 3 times. I’m convinced that this is the worst Resident Evil game in existence.

You can’t say I didn’t try to get into Resident Evil 7. The problem I have with the game is that it’s not really Resident Evil. It’s a completely different game that should’ve either been a spinoff or entirely new IP. Capcom cashed in on the VR craze and dropped this game. I have so many problems with this game it’ll take forever for me to list them all. That’s not what I’m here for today. Today, I’m here to vent. I tried my best to like this game. I bought it THREE times. The most I ever paid for this game was $20. I refunded it two days later and got my money back after a few hours of progress. Then I purchased it again from my local pawn shop for $8.

Both of those purchases were on the PS4 and both times I quit fairly early in the game. I told myself that no matter how much I didn’t like this game I would play it to completion this time on PC. So I paid $10 for it on PC and it came with that Chris Redfield DLC. And, once again, I quit once I reached the second VHS tape with that old woman (forgot her name) chasing Ethan’s (is his name Ethan?) wife. I noped out at that point because I was incredibly fed up. This run and hide simulator is NOT Resident Evil and I refuse to go through the bullshit any longer. I refunded it (again) and I’m never going to play it again. I just don’t have the patience for it.

First of all, this game takes itself way too seriously. Resident Evil was always a campy horror series with corny one-liners. I found myself laughing at moments that were supposed to be “scary” in this game and rolling my eyes at the forced stealth segments. The change of perspective from third person to first person is the worst offender here. Why make this change? This game doesn’t feel like Resident Evil at all. Yes, you have to backtrack, solve puzzles, and open some fucking doors with keys. Does that really make this Resident Evil though? No.

The perspective, characters, and gameplay also played a big part of what made Resident Evil. This game is a big slap in the face to the Resident Evil IP. The main protagonist is the worst one in the series, his wife is a fucking idiot, the enemy designs are stupid, and Ethan (is that his name?) is too fucking slow. This was done purposely to make us feel frightened by what was chasing us and all it did was make me feel frustrated because I’m pretty sure I can outrun half the shit that was chasing Ethan in this game and I’m 240 pounds.

Resident Evil 7 infuriated me. What little interest I had in the story wasn’t enough for me to power through this game. Once I realized that the entire old lady segment was me running and hiding from her I couldn’t’ do it. I actually looked it up on Youtube to see if it was going to get any better. It didn’t… so I refunded the game and I currently have $9.69 on Steam that I have no idea what to do with.

Resident Evil 7 is the worst Resident Evil game I’ve ever played. Okay… maybe not the worst, but it’s in second place at the moment behind Umbrella Corps. I even liked Operation Raccoon City more than this shit and I did not like that game at all. But Raccoon City was a spinoff and not advertised as a main game in the series and it was incredibly different than the main games. If Resident Evil 7 was a spinoff (like Revelations) that would’ve been fine. I would still hate it, but I would be okay with it existing.

This is, hopefully, the last time I’ll ever write about Resident Evil 7. I’m honestly not even looking forward to Resident Evil 8. I read some so-called leaks and if they’re true that means 8 will be like 7 and have the exact same horrible protagonist. I’ll pass on that shit.

And that’s my honest opinion on Resident Evil 7. If I had to give it a score it would be somewhere around 4 maybe a 5. There’s nothing really special about it. It didn’t take Resident Evil back to its roots like some people claim it did. Resident Evil 2 Remake did that. Not Resident Evil 7.

What do you think of Resident Evil 7? Am I crazy for not liking it?

RE7 seemed more like Outlast (?) than a Resident Evil game, which is part of the reason I never bothered playing it. I’m all for horror games like Soma or other Fractional Games titles, but like you said, RE is more about campy horror and zombies. At least to me.

I’ve been there before, so I can sympathize with retrying games over and over. Are you done torturing yourself yet?

Yes, I am done torturing myself :-). I tried to get into this game three times and quit at the exact same spot all three times. It’s a run and hide simulator, not a Resident Evil game. And I honestly have no problems with games like Soma, etc, but when you slap that shit in my Resident Evil games is when I draw the line. Unfortunately, it looks like Resident Evil 8 will be like 7.

Makes me think that it would’ve been better on its own, even though it was popular. Makes me wonder how far from the original material RE could get before people started calling them out.

It should’ve been a standalone game or new IP. And now Capcom has continued this bullshit with Resident Evil 8. And to make matters worse it looks like they turned my favorite character into the villain…
