I’ve Become A Phone Gamer

Spread the Word!

I’ve played games on my phone before, but never this much. I don’t know what it is exactly that’s made me want to game on my phone as often as I’ve been lately, but I am. So I thought it would be a good idea to share what I’ve been playing.

I’m going to separate these into categories for simplicity.

Phone Game Hall of Fame

These are the games I think stand above the rest and I don’t consider them your average pay to win bullshit.

Honkai Impact

Honkai Impact is without a doubt the best phone game I’ve ever played. There’s no auto-battle bullshit and the game has really good gameplay. It’s an action game that has you choosing different heroines to take into battle against all sorts of different enemies. The story is surprisingly good and I never felt the need to throw cash at the screen to progress. I actually just unlocked a few characters without paying a single cent.

Final Fantasy Opera Omnia

I played the living shit out of this game when I lived out of a hotel room a while back. It was a good way to help pass the time while I tried to get back on my feet. This game and Mario Odyssey really helped me back then. I now own an iPhone and one of the first things I did was install this game on it and continued where I left off. This game has a great cast of characters that can be unlocked without spending any cash, This is an excellent game that’ll make any Final Fantasy fan squeal in joy at seeing all of their favorite characters team up with each other and take on bad guys.

Everything Else

The two games I mentioned above are excellent. These are games I’m either not sold on yet, haven’t played enough of, or I just don’t like them enough to include them above.

Epic Seven

I enjoy Epic Seven every time I play it. But… I’m not sure how long that’ll last because I’m not very far into it and I think it might eventually become pay to progress like so many other games I’ve played already. The visuals are absolutely beautiful and, so far anyway, the story isn’t bad. The characters are designed really well too and I really like the gameplay, but I am a sucker for turn-based games so I’m a bit biased.

AFK Arena

At first, you’ll be progressing incredibly fast in this game… until you eventually hit a wall. You could either throw money at the game in order to speed up your progression or you could do what’s in the title and go AFK. The point of this game isn’t to sit there and play it for an hour or two. It’s to play in small 15-20 burst. Going AFK is the only way to get gear after a certain point, but it’s also incredibly slow and even the summons stop being good after a while which makes me believe that it is indeed pay to win.

The further I made it the least likely I was able to summon the hero I needed to advance my character to the next rank so I could continue to level them up so I could progress through the main campaign. AFK Arena went from being pretty good to me wanting to uninstall it from my phone because I don’t have the patience to play it anymore.

There are other games like Sdorica. It’s developed by Rayark and they’ve made some really good games in the past so I went ahead and downloaded it. There’s also Mobile Legends Adventure which is really similar to AFK Arena, but without the pay to win bullshit. It’s really easy to progress and when I did hit a wall I was able to overcome way faster than I was in AFK Arena. I also briefly played Skylanders, but I honestly didn’t enjoy it so I uninstalled in about 20 minutes.

Final Thoughts:

And that’s it. That’s what I’ve been playing on my phone lately. Me gaming on my phone doesn’t mean you’re going to see a bunch of mobile games pop up on here. I’m still working on my game of the year awards and multiple best of the decade lists too. I’m just taking my time with them and don’t want to rush anything, but I’m getting close to finishing it and they’ll start dropping near the end of the month.

I *think* I might have downloaded Opera Omnia, but I didn’t play much of it because it seemed to be all combat based. I played Brave Exvius for over a year and liked it, but I was really far behind with the story and then it became too much of a chore to keep doing it every day. I know people have a general hatred for freemium games, but I honestly enjoyed this one so much. The music is excellent and it has a good story. Thinking about it again I might just go to the Wiki to see how that ended since I stopped playing it lol. I think the last game I played on my phone was To the Moon, which was awesome, too. I need to pick up and play the sequel to it.

I never got into Brave Exvius. Opera Omnia is combat-focused, but that’s what Dissidia has always been. A Final Fantasy fighting game. I love getting my favorite team together and going through the story with them. I want to play Brave Exvius though. It looks really neat. All of the FF games on the phone look good to me. I’ll look up To the Moon. I know nothing about it :-).

I think I liked FFBE because it was more than fighting. Dissidia was really pretty but I’m not really a fighting game person. I want to play Record Keeper, too. I think I downloaded it but never really played it.

Record Keeper was decent. I didn’t put a lot of time into it though because I was addicted to Opera Omnia at the time. I can understand your point on Opera Omnia. Square Enix basically took a fighting game turned it into a turn-based JRPG. It’s definitely not for everyone.

While I don’t mind fighting and even enjoy it to some point, I want more than that in a game lol.
