Neocore Games, the developers behind The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing, Death Trap, and Warhammer 40K Inquisitor are working on a brand new game and it’s one I’m highly curious about. King Arthur: Knights Tale!
There are have been many Kickstarter success stories. Divinity: Original Sin, The Banner Saga, Wasteland 2, Darkest Dungeon, and a Dark Souls board game comes to my mind when I think of Kickstarter. King Arthur: Knights Tale could be one of those success stories if they meet the $150,000 goal they’ve set for themselves on Kickstarter. This game looks pretty unique. It’s an Xcom styled turn-based RPG set in King Arthur’s world.
You’ll have to use cover against archers, strategically position your units around the map to gain the advantage in battle, and make plenty of decisions that’ll affect the progression of your game and the way the story plays. I think there also might be an alignment system and that’s something I’ve really missed in RPGs.
Like Xcom, your units can die if you don’t treat their wounds and tend to them properly, but this game takes it a bit further than that. Your units will also leave, and possibly even betray you, depending on the actions you make and whether or not they get along with your, or possibly even other companions in your group, decisions or not. I’m not sure how exploration will work or if it’s just stage based like Xcom, but from what I’ve read and seen in the short Kickstarter video I left impressed enough to write a positive article on it.
The story sounds pretty interesting on paper and I’m curious to see how it all unfolds. Here’s a brief summary straight from the Kickstarter page –
“You are Sir Mordred, the nemesis of King Arthur, the former black knight of the grim tales. You killed King Arthur, but with his dying breath, he struck you down. You both died – and yet, you both live.
The Lady of the Lake, the ruler of the mystical island of Avalon brought you back to end a true nightmare. She wants you to go on a knightly quest. She wants you to finish what you have begun. Kill King Arthur – or whatever he has become after she took his dying vessel to Avalon.“
