I have two games I want to talk about today and they’re both local co op twin stick shooters!
Three new top down shooters released this week on Steam. I was lucky enough to score review copies for two of them and they’re both good.
Cryptark has a lot going for it. It’s a twin stick shooter in space. I get to dodge traps, fight enemies, and unlock doors in a mech and I’m really enjoying it right now. This game went the extra mile and let me customize my mech. It’s not super in depth, but I like that I can buy new weapons, and defensive items before every stage. I also like that I can unlock new mechs to play with as I continue to play the game.
This game is also pretty damn hard. I struggled with level 1 stages at first. Once I got the controls down, and started using a controller, I did much better. Each tier of stages brings harder enemies, different traps to avoid, and upgrades to find, but the downside is I can’t take my time and do everything. There’s a time limit for each mission and if I want to make the most credits I’ll need to make sure I complete each mission before the time expires.
I’m liking this game a lot more then I thought I would and I plan on writing a review for it in the near future.
Nex Machina is made by the developers of Resogun. Housemarque is testing PC waters by releasing Nex Machina alongside the PS4 version of the game. This game is really good. It doesn’t have any of the customization that Cryptark has, but it makes up for that by having really good gameplay, amazing visuals, great boss fights, and a solid PC port. This game is playable with a mouse and keyboard as well as a controller. Add local co op and you’ve got yourself a real good time. My wife and I played this game for two hours before we had our fill and I’m already in love with it.
I like trying to best my previous score by going faster, finding all the secrets, which are well hidden by the way, and, most importantly, not dying. This game can get really chaotic and trying to stay alive can get really tricky.
If you’re looking for a good local co op game to play with someone I recommend checking both of these games out.
What do you think of Cryptarc, and Nex Machina?
