Lets Talk About Dragon Quest Builders!

Spread the Word!

I went out shopping today with my wife and while she was doing her thing I came across this game and decided to buy it.

Dragon Quest Builders is a Minecraft version of Dragon Quest. The difference is it doesn’t suck ass like Minecraft. I’m a huge Dragon Quest fan so I knew I would get this game eventually. I enjoyed the demo to this and after I fell out of love with Kingdom Come Deliverance and changed my mind on Metal Gear Survival I decided to buy this game along with Ever Oasis today. I played this game for about two hours and in that time I built myself up a nice base with multiple rooms, crafted myself some decent gear, and completed a bunch of quest for my useless companions. Well… the hobo with the beard isn’t useless. He helped me kick some skeleton ass while everyone else ran and hid inside :(…

I like exploring for new crafting materials. The beginning of the game was a bit of a slog because of the heavy amount of dialogue that I had to go through before I got to the interesting parts. The interesting part being me getting the hell out of the noob zone so I can kill tougher enemies for crafting components and finally make myself a decent weapon, shield, and armor set. I’m really enjoying exploring the world, listening to some classic Dragon Quest tunes, and building my home up from a barren piece of shit into whatever I want it to be… as long as I have the proper materials anyway. The combat is really simple and is the low point of the game for me right now. I don’t know if I’ll eventually get access to magic casting or not, but right now it’s just me swinging my sword from left to right, jumping out of the way of enemy attacks, and repeating the first step. It’s really simple, but also really boring. Maybe that will change and maybe it won’t. Only time will tell…

This game does have a day/night cycle. During the day it’s safer to go out and collect materials while it’s recommended that you stay indoors at night. I’ve ventured out at night a lot and haven’t run into anything that can kill me yet. The enemies are harder, but not to the point that they instakill me. I’m enjoying Dragon Quest Builders, but it’s making me want to play Dragon Quest Heroes which isn’t even on the Switch here. I wonder if we’ll ever get it or will I be forced to buy it on PC. I’m also wondering when the next core Dragon Quest game will release on the Switch. I’m really excited to play that too. Dragon Quest Builders is fun. I’m enjoying it and it seems like a game that can keep me busy for a while. I’m not 100% sold on it yet, but I’m only 2 hours in (maybe a little less than that) and I can’t wait to jump back in and continue building my small city up into something massive.

Have you played Dragon Quest Builders? What did you think of it? Are you a Dragon Quest fan like I am?

Yes I got it and actually enjoyed it quite a bit. Not a fan of the build mode though.

Building things was a little complicated at first. I’m a huge fan of Terraria and Starbound so I love the building part of the game. I enjoy building things in the other two games I mentioned more though.

I love Dragon Quest Builders. I played it a while back on PS4. I did a review of it for Gamereactor. I gave it a 9.

The game is very addictive and it gave me heavy Dark Cloud vibes when building the town.

My biggest gripe with the game is the camera It can be such a pain, especially when exploring interiors.
