Do you want to play a game that has beautiful artwork, a nice story (so far anyway) and a boss that throws fart bombs at you? Then Figment might be for you!
I wanted Figment from the moment I saw the opening trailer on Steam. I reached out to Bedtime Digital Games and got myself a review copy of Figment yesterday. I spent some of last night playing it and I like it. It’s pretty good. The aesthetic is amazing and I’m digging the main protagonist too.
He’s really grumpy and doesn’t really want to save the world, but he’s sort of forced into it when someone steals his sketch book and runs off with it. The combat is fairly simple. I can swing my sword around from the left to right to fight enemies. If I hold the attack button down I can do a spin attack similar to the one Link does in The Legend of Zelda series. The gameplay isn’t nearly as good as Zelda, but it’s serviceable enough to not annoy me and I’m interested in the story even though I’m pretty sure I’ve already figured it out after only 30 minutes of playing.
That’s not a bad thing because what I think I know is really good if the story plays out the way it does in my head. The highlight of my short playthrough last night came from my first boss fight. The boss likes to throw his farts at me. I burst out laughing when he started singing and slinging fart bombs at me. They sounded like juicy farts when they exploded and I even got hit a few times before I figured out that I had to hit the fart bombs back at him. It hilarious and we had a great time with it last night before we all went to bed.
I can’t praise the aesthetic enough. Everything is hand drawn and very colorful and full of life. The character models are excellent, the soundtrack is okay and the world design is brilliant.
Figment is fun. It doesn’t have the best gameplay, but I love the childish approach the developers took with this game. It’s a game that I can play with my kids and we all had fun dodging fart bombs last night. Figment is currently on sale for $16.99 on Steam and I recommend it if you’re looking for something different to play.
