Lets Talk About Mass Effect Andromeda!

Spread the Word!

A lot of information has been shared on Mass Effect Andromeda over the last few days. There are some good things that I’m looking forward to and there are some pretty bad things too. Read on to find out what I think of Mass Effect Andromeda.

Lets start with what I don’t like about Mass Effect: Andromeda

When I was first introduced to Mass Effect back in 2007 I instantly fell in love with Commander Sheperd. He was a badass, did what he wanted, and went up against the council, Saren, the Geth, and blew up a Reaper.

Ryder doesn’t give me the impression that Sheperd did. I don’t like the way he looks, and I hate his name too. Ryder is just… too generic for in my opinion. I would have preferred Sheperd’s long lost son/daughter.

Character Classes Have Been Removed

I’m really scratching my head on this one. Instead of Bioware building on the old, classic, character classes that’s been in Mass Effect since the beginning they decided to remove them. Instead of character classes we can build from the ground up it’s been replaced with a new system. We can invest our skill points in anything we want now. I’m not exactly sure how it works, but the way it sounds to me is that it’s been dumbed down just like Dragon Age Inquisition. I don’t like this move at all. The RPG elements of Mass Effect were already pretty sparse. This just makes it nonexistent to me.

Paragon/Renegade Has Been Removed

This was a huge blow to my heart. Playing as renegade Sheperd is the best way to play Mass Effect in my opinion. It’s also been removed with something that sounds like was ripped from one of the Fifa games. Instead of your basic Paragon/Renegade options we’re getting something called Heart, Head, Professional, and Casual. I’m guessing those are personalities for Ryder.

If they are I don’t think I’ll mind as long as I can be some sort of douche I’ll be happy, but since we have very little information to go on right now I’m considering this a big negative for Mass Effect: Andromeda.

The Timeline:

Mass Effect: Andromeda starts around the end of Mass Effect 2. Ships filled with humans are heading towards the Andromeda galaxy. My guess is that this was humanity’s way of keeping the human race alive just in case the Reapers won the big war. The beginning of the game is 600 years after the Reapers were destroyed, I’m pretty sure the destroy ending is the canon ending to the Mass Effect Trilogy, and I don’t like it.

I don’t think it’s a horrible idea, but I do want Bioware to at least give us closure on what happened after the Reaper war instead of sweeping it under the rug and forgetting about it. What happened to Garrus, Tali, Wrex, Liara, and the rest of the crew. Since it’s 600 years later Liara would still be alive. She’ll be in her 800’s, but she’ll still be kicking.

Here’s what I like about Mass Effect Andromeda

There Are Two Ryders

Instead of the female/male protagonist being the same person they’re their own person this time around. I really like this idea because that means I can, hopefully, have a good friendship with my sibling and father. Bioware has hinted that we’ll be able to talk to our sibling, but they will not be part of our crew.

The Nexus Is The New Citadel

There has to be a main hub that connects all of the species together and that’s what The Nexus is. There’s not much to go on here, but we can assume that The Nexus is just like the Citadel from the Mass Effect Trilogy.

There Are Melee Items

I read that there will be melee items in the games such as hammers, swords, etc, but we don’t know if they’re actual weapons or just attached to your omni tool. Either way it sounds really cool and I need it in my life.

Think of the Planets in Mass Effect: Andromeda like one of the zones in Inquisition. You’ll have a huge, open area to explore with, I’m assuming, many things to do. There will be bases on the planets for your to explore, and bosses, similar to the dragons in Inquisition, for you to fight. Some enemies will be too tough for you to fight right away and you’ll have to go back later to defeat. It all sounds really awesome and I can’t wait to see it in action.

In Andromeda we can customize our helmets, chest, shoulders, arms, and legs. It remains to be seen if this will turn out to be a good thing, but I’m excited about the possibilities.

Here’s what I’m undecided about

I know there’s a Asari, human female, and I read somewhere that there’s a Krogan too, but I’m not sure on that one yet. I won’t know until I play the game for myself if I’m going to love the new squad or if they’re just going to be like a another James Vega..

I lost a little bit of hype for Andromeda after reading about some of the changes in it. I know Bioware is trying to mix it up by changing some things about the game, but I think they changed too much. I’m still going to buy the game on release day, but I think I’ll cater my expectations a little after this.

There are many more things about Mass Andromeda out there. I just choose a few options that I wanted to touch up on. I’ll be going more in depth about the game at a later date.

What do you think of Andromeda so far?

I’m keeping an open mind about a new ME. I was pretty happy with what we had in the trilogy and how it ended, though I wasn’t too interested in DLC for ME3 after completing it. Seemed a waste at that point…

Be interesting to see if Krogans are in it… some pretty important things (could) happen to them in ME3 so if there is a group leaving the galaxy at the time of ME2 their situation may be very different.

The multiplayer mode in ME3 was a fun distraction though. Not a big feature but fun with friends! 🙂

I am too. I’m just a little disappointed with some of the changes. It seems like it’s being dumbed down like Dragon Age was.

I trust Bioware though. They haven’t given me a reason not to. Mass Effect, and Dragon Age are my two favorite game series of all time so I’m pretty sure Andromeda is going to be great :).

I really hope we don’t get the equivalent of Dragon Age 2 with this new Mass Effect. I don’t mind if they want to try some different ideas but I am a little worried. I guess we’ll find out what it is like end of March 🙂

I loved Dragon Age 2 :). And I trust Bioware. They’ve made my two all time favorite franchises. I don’t think Ryder will replace Shepard to me, but I’m willing to give him/her a shot.

I’m looking forward to it for sure, but I still need to hear more solid info and see more gameplay to truly get excited.

I’m calling it now though, Ryder sibling will die at some point.

I wouldn’t be surprised if that happened further into the game too.

One thing I read that I didn’t include in the article is this won’t be another trilogy. I think Mass Effect is going the Dragon Age route and giving us different protagonist in every game.

Oh, I hadn’t heard that. I’d quite like it to be another trilogy to be honest.

I would too, but I don’t think it’s going to happen. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
