Lets Talk About! Nintendo Switch 13

Lets Talk About My New Nintendo Switch Games!

Spread the Word!

Nintendo (for once) is having a really good sale on their Eshop. I was attempted to buy a lot of new games, but decided to stick with three (for now) and I wanted to share them with everyone along with a brief first impression of them all.

The first game I purchased was Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. I’m glad I only paid $24 for this game. I really like it, but I’m not in love with it. It’s too simple for my taste, but it does give me that Xcom fix I’ve been craving lately. The story is hilarious so far and my favorite character is rabbit Peach. She is fucking funny and is always taking selfies of random shit. I’m not very far into the game yet. I’m on chapter 2 and I’m already feeling a little burned out.

The next game on my list I bought for my wife and I to play together. I finally caved… and bought Overcooked. This game is harder than I thought it would be and a lot of fun when you have someone to play it with. My wife and I managed to burn our kitchen to the ground (twice) and make just about all of customers leave because we were too slow to serve them their food. I’m sorry guys…  I promise I’ll do better next time :).

The final game I bought is Lost Sphear. This game has been on my radar since it released. I told myself I would not buy it for $50. I kept my word and bought it for $24 two days ago and I really like it so far. The story is interesting, the gameplay is fantastic, and I love the aesthetic. I hope the story stays interesting. I’m only a few hours in and I haven’t even reached the capital yet. I’ve been spending most of my time playing Mario. Lost Sphear is the first proper JRPG game I’ve played on the Switch that feels like a 3DS game. Playing this in handheld mode is fantastic. I almost burned our dinner because I got distracted with this game on the couch. I’m really looking forward to playing this some more later today.

Am I thinking about double dipping on Darkest Dungeon. I really miss playing that game and it looks like it’s fantastic on the Switch. I’m also thinking about double dipping on I Am Setsuna. That game had a terrible PC port and I bashed it for that, but I think the Switch is the perfect console for JRPGs and I wouldn’t mind dropping $20 on it. Splatoon 2 is another game I was thinking about but since I don’t have Internet I wouldn’t be able to enjoy it the way I want to so I’ll most likely end up waiting until it’s on sale again.

I’m planning on writing something up on E3. A top 10 (or top 5) games. I’m only allowed 45 minutes of computer time here so it’s a bit tough to do right now.

What games have you been playing? Did you buy any new games or are you playing something you already own?

It sounds like you have got some good deals there. I love Overcooked. You build up the ability in the kitchen over time (and after a few kitchen fires).

After putting a few hours in Overcooked I decided that it wasn’t for me. My kids love it though :).

I can imagine that your kids will love it and that means it’s definitely worth having even if it isn’t a game for you. I’m glad that you got the chance to try it as well.

My kids do enjoy it. I plan on getting them their own Switch for Christmas. That means I’ll have to buy Overcooked again unless Nintendo comes up with a family plan or something 🙂

More Darkest Dungeon is always a good thing! Only thing I’ll say is that the controls on Switch take a bit of getting used to. The touch controls work pretty well in portable mode though.

I heard that the controls could be a pain. I decided not to buy Darkest Dungeon and bought Earthlock instead.

Rabbit Peach is hilarious, which surprised me as I have previously thought that the rabbits were annoying. Octopath Traveller comes out next month. As someone who likes JRPGs you may want to check out the demo.

I played the demo last year. I’m trying to hold out until it releases later this month. I don’t want to spoil myself too much :).

That seems to be the consensus on Mario + Rabbids. I’m only into Chapter 2, as well, and I feel like I’ve seen everything I need to see. I love the story. Rabbid Peach IS awesome, but I find the combat a bit difficult and/or I can’t get the hang of it. I’ve heard of the Xcom similarities, though I’ve never played that. I haven’t lost any of my battles yet, but I don’t think I’ve fallen into the right rhythm with them. it’s an awesome concept and well executed, but I’d be fine watching the rest as a Let’s Play. I borrowed it from a coworker, and I’m glad I didn’t buy it.

I like the story too. My problem is I would rather play Xcom 2 or even Enemy Unknown. The only thing this game has going for it is that it’s a strategy Mario game. The problem is the strategy is weak and the game itself is really repetitive. I do like the story and characters though.

YES. That’s the issue I had with it. There was little to distinguish one battle from the other. That’s why I think I was able to stop playing not long into chapter 2 and feel like I’d gotten my time’s worth.

I’m in chapter 4 (I think), but I haven’t played the game since I wrote this and I have no plans on playing it again any time soon. I might power through so I can write a review on it.
