Lets Talk About Portal Knights!

Spread the Word!

Portal Knights just released and it’s like a 3D Terraria… but it sucks.

I’m in the minority on this one. This game has a very positive rating on Steam and people seem to really love it. I’ve played about a hour and I’m not sure if I want to play anymore because I’m really not liking this game. Portal Knights looked really cool and I thought it was a game that I could get into, but I was wrong. This game does have some pretty major issues for me.

Gathering materials, building a house, and the combat are the biggest ones for me. This game encourages exploration by letting us dig underground for materials, but the camera is awful in both third, and first person. In first person everything is incredibly close to my face even with the field of view maxed out. In third person it’s hard to get a good angle on what I want to chop down or pick up. It’s a mess and it’s one I would rather avoid. The combat got repetitive in 5 minutes. If I hold down the attack button I’ll watch my dude flail his arms around until the monster in front of me is dead. It’s boring and little games like Terraria, and Starbound does it a lot better.

The only positive thing I can think of right now is how nice the game looks. Everything is very pretty, but the game itself is a giant turd that I don’t want to play anymore.

What do you think of Portal Knights? Is it your type of game?

Maybe it gets better once you unlock more talents? I hear that the game has bosses so I suppose fighting those would be more interesting than killing the regular enemies?

The combat itself is really average. Can’t see myself flailing around at a boss for a extended amount of time. I might go back to it after I finish up some games that I actually want to play through. I’ve been addicted to Stellaris for about a week now and I want to buy Endless Space 2.
