So Scalebound has been cancelled… what does this mean for Platinum Games?
Scalebound looked like it could be a good game, but it’s been through development hell this past year. Microsoft recently announced that they were shutting it down and it’s a real shame for two reasons.
- The game actually looked pretty good.
- The Xbox One is really weak with exclusives right now.
Scalebound getting cancelled doesn’t really surprise me. We haven’t heard anything about it in quite a while and the development team was overworked. They couldn’t get the game to run properly on their engine and whenever a game of this scale takes so long to release it’s usually a bad sign. Final Fantasy 15, and The Last Guardian are the exception here.
Scalebound offered us something entirely different then what we were used to getting. A open world, over the top action game, with big ass dragons. Maybe Platinum Games bit off more then they could chew with this project. Maybe Microsoft had set unrealistic expectations for Platinum Games to meet or maybe it was a bit of both. One thing we do know is this game will never see the light of day and it’s a real shame because we’ll never know what could have been.
The Xbox One can really use some games right now because everything worth playing is releasing on the PS4 this year so far.
What do you think of Scalebound’s cancellation?
