Lets Talk About! Xbox One 4

Let’s Talk About State Of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition!

Spread the Word!

State of Decay is a game series that’s never interested me. I went into Juggernaut with very low expectations and walked away pleasantly surprised with the game. Here’s what I think of my first few hours of State of Decay Juggernaut Edition!

I’ve never played State of Decay 2 before. I briefly played the first game and walked away incredibly disappointed and wrote the series off. Since I have Xbox Game Pass I decided to revisit the series and I’m glad I did. I really enjoyed playing this game. Xbox exclusives get a lot of hate because they don’t follow the Sony formula of having “good” stories in all of their games. State of Decay 2 is fun. It doesn’t need to be any more or less than that. There’s no deep narrative or heart-wrenching moments in this game.

You just play the game with a bunch of different characters with poor dialogue and that’s enough for me. One reason why I disliked Days Gone so much is because of the heavy focus on the narrative while the gameplay took a backseat. Days Gone is not fun to play. I blame that on the Dualshock 4 controller more than the game itself though. State of Decay and Days Gone has a lot in common in my opinion. The only difference is that there’s more to do in State of Decay. I can choose different characters so I’m not stuck using Deacon. I can capture new outpost that gives off various different bonuses, get new cars, survivors, etc.

There’s a lot to do and it runs really well on my Xbox One X too. This game doesn’t look as good as Days Gone, but I’m enjoying everything else a lot more than I did in Days Gone. I’m not trying to convince you that this game is some sort of masterpiece. It’s not. It’s far, far from it. But it is fun and that’s really all I want in my zombie games. To turn my brain off and have some fun. I looted gas stations, found some new, powerful weapons, killed off two different infestations, and even found a new vehicle. I haven’t found any new survivors to add to my camp just yet, but I’m sure I will as I continue to play.

The gameplay is really smooth. I can easily shoot zombies in the head and I don’t have to fight with the controls as I did with the first game. Driving around is easy and I haven’t experienced any bugs or glitches yet in 3 hours of playtime. This game is optimized really well and I commend the developers for that. It’s nice to play a bug-free game for once.

I can’t comment on the differences between this version of State of Decay 2 and the original one because I never played that one. This version is supposed to have a more streamlined start, better graphics, UI tweaks, and more. The video below goes over everything that this edition of the game added.

State of Decay 2 is growing on me. I was completely against this game when I first started it because of the bad experience I had playing the first game. Part of that is because I’m not the same gamer I was a few years ago. I’m much more open-minded with video games now. State of Decay isn’t going to rewrite the zombie genre, but it’ s a good distraction for me while I wait for Dying Light 2.

Have you played State of Decay 2? What did you think of it?

Big fan of this game. Like you said it’s no masterpiece but there’s plenty to do and grows on you once you understand it’s quirks and get your community going. You can even have friends join your game for additional help. Worth checking out the bounty broker for “missions” to unlock extra weapons too. 🙂

I don’t have any friends that play this game so no multiplayer for me. I’ll keep that last tip in mind though!

Actually love this game. Have been playing SOD since the 1st one and like what they’ve done to improve the initial SOD 2 release. 🙂

I really disliked the first game. This one is decent so far for me though!
