There’s a lot of hate going Bethesda’s way right now. Lets talk about that shit!
Many news outlets, and Youtubers has already covered this story to death, but everyone seems to be missing one big point in the article that IGN released. Bethesda aren’t the ones that threatened No Matter Studios with the trademark claim for the word “prey”. Here’s the exact words from IGN themselves:
“Developer No Matter Studios revealed in a recent newsletter that, after some consideration, it decided it “had” to change the game’s name, as shortly after applying for trademarks for Prey for the Gods, Bethesda parent company Zenimax allegedly chose to oppose No Matter Studios’ mark. According to No Matter, Zenimax believes the original title is too similar to its trademark for Prey, which it acquired from Id Software in 2009.”
If you read that carefully you’ll see the word Zenimax. Zenimax chose to oppose No Matter Studios not Bethesda. So why is everyone hating Bethesda for it? I’ve seen some ridiculous shit before, but this lack of reading comprehension is takes the cake for me. Why let your blind hate for Bethesda cloud your thoughts. Zenimax is the parent company of Bethesda. Bethesda doesn’t have a say so in the legal actions that Zenimax decides to take against other developers.
I’m not here to defend Bethesda, but this issue confused me because all of the hateful comments are towards Bethesda instead of Zenimax. I think that could be because all of the original Prey fans (what few of you there are) are mad at Bethesda for “changing the game”. You know… the same thing they did with Fallout 3, and 4 :). Aim your hate at the right people because all Bethesda has done lately is publish a Prey reboot. And it looks pretty good by the way.
At least Prey for the Gods is still happening. It hasn’t been cancelled and the developers are still working hard to make it happen.
What do you think of this situation? Do you agree with other people and blame Bethesda or did you actually pay attention to the article I linked and see Zenimax’s name in there?
