Lets Talk About The Game Awards!

Spread the Word!

There were a lot of surprises last night during the game awards. I’ve chosen my favorites to talk about today.

The game awards was decent this year. It had some horrible music being played in a bunch of trailers and some shitty ones live too, but I enjoyed it for the most part. I mainly watched it (along with Thursday night football) to see what new games would be announced. There’s not a lot that I’m interested in that was announced, but I am looking forward to a few games and I’m glad God of War beat Red Dead Redemption 2.

Dragon Age is at the very top of my list of games that was announced last night. I was not expecting anything from Bioware outside of Anthem and I’m super excited for it. Is this a direct sequel to Inquisition? I mean that was Solas’s voice we all heard right?

We got another new trailer for Anthem and I’m convinced that this game is going to be fantastic. I love everything that I’ve seen on it and I can’t wait to play it next year. I’ll be picking up two copies at launch and hopefully it’ll be my new go to multiplayer game.

Another new Far Cry game was announced and I really don’t care much for it. Far Cry hasn’t been good in a few years now. I… enjoyed Far Cry 5, but I think was a step down from Far Cry 4 and I’m not sure what to think of this new one yet.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 was announced with a brief gameplay trailer last night and I’m super excited for it. I was not expecting anything related to that game to be announced today since the last game released back in 2009 and it’s a Switch exclusive! That was the biggest surprise of them all. If you don’t know what Ultimate Alliance is think of Diablo, but replace everyone with Marvel characters :).

We got a nice cinematic trailer for Mortal Kombat 11 and the music in the background ruined what should have been a really nice trailer. Seriously… why did so many game trailers have shitty music last night?

Speaking of shitty music… we got another Rage trailer and I like that it’s open world, but I can go without that annoying song playing in the background again. I’m totally buying this game because it looks like a crazy good time.

Persona 5 was at the game awards show. I was hoping that it was an announcement of it making it’s way to the Switch, but it was just a Smash announcement… and seeing Joker in Smash made me want the game. Thanks Nintendo…

And that’s it. That’s all I’m interested in that was shown off last night. Watching how happy everyone was to receive their awards was awesome. A bunch of super talented people was there and it seemed like everyone was having a great time and that made me have a good time watching it. Gaming has come a long way hasn’t it?

What did you think of the game awards? What games are you looking forward to?

I must have missed that one. I was really focused on Thursday night football for about an hour :).

I never ever catch the game awards and honestly had no idea they had them aired anywhere. I’m always so behind with things! I still need to play Persona 5. I think I have one of them, maybe Persona 4 Golden. I have no idea what I own anymore. I keep buying games from Cheap Boss Attack aka Trash and there’s just a shit ton of stuff in the boxes lol.

If there’s one game I would recommend on PS4 it’s Persona 5. It’s the est game on the system and one of the best JRPGs I’ve ever played. It’s REALLY long though. My first run took me 120 hours.

I try not to look at games he’s selling because my backlog is already large enough lol. The Game Awards is much better than it used to be. I remember that god awful award show they had on Spike TV years ago…

That’s what I’ve heard. I’m over 200 hours on Octopath so I’m not worried about 120 hehe. It might be a project for 2019.

I always get sucked in! There might be a game I’ve been looking for for a while.

I stopped playing Octopath at 50 hours :). I didn’t fall in love with the game the way I wanted to, but I LOVE Persona 5. Great story, great characters, and good gameplay too. It’s a really slow game though. In Octopath you’re always fighting monsters and exploring. Persona 5 is different. You have to go to school, study, get to know your friends, and stuff like that.

It sounds like an utterly different type of RPG! Octopath is very retro/Final Fantasy like, which is what I’m used to. I’ve recently played dungeon crawler RPGs and SRPGs. I wasn’t super fond of Valkyria (the latter type), but I want to try new stuff.

I’ve never played anything like Persona 5 before. I’ve played many games like Octopath, but never anything that has you living a normal life while battling demons after school lol. I also wasn’t super fond of Valkyria Chronicles, but because it was too slow paced for me. Some stages took forever to get through and I prefer my turn based strategy games to be a little faster paced than that. Like Xcom.

Valkyria just wasn’t my type of SRPG. I can see its appeal, but it just wasn’t for me. I heard Mario + Rabbids was similar to Xcom but more fast paced?

Mario + Rabbids is like Xcom for babies. It’s a good starting point. I didn’t love the game because it was too simple, but if you’re trying to get into the genre it’s a good starting point imo. Fire Emblem Awakening is what I would really recommend if you’re trying to get into SRPGs. It has a great story, great characters, and great gameplay. You can even have a romance and have a kid or two.

I think that was my problem with it. It was the same thing over and over again, which yeah, is fine for kids. I have Fire Emblem in my backlog! I like do like SRPGs, but yeah, a little bit more to do in them would be nice.

If you want more to do in an SRPG then you’ll probably love Fire Emblem. Especially the newer games in the series.
