Lets Talk About Toukiden 2!

Spread the Word!

Toukiden 2 is the closet thing we have a Monster Hunter game on the PC, and Playstation 4. This game almost flew under my radar because of the big year for games that we’ve had so far, but my friend CheapBossAttack posted about it a little while ago on Twitter and that renewed my interest in the game. I never played the first one and decided it would be a good idea to start with the latest game in the series and it’s pretty damn good so far.

Toukiden 2 feels like a mix of Monster Hunter, and Dynasty Warriors. The way I can mix up combos while I’m fighting feels exactly like Dynasty Warriors while everything else in the game screams Monster Hunter and it actually works. The gameplay in this game is fast paced and I can chain my combos together nicely. I’ve only tried the longsword, and longbow out, but I do plan on trying out every weapon type to see which one is my favorite.

The gameplay isn’t the only thing that’s keeping me interested in Toukiden 2. The story is also pretty interesting right now and I want to know what happened to my character, and the world during the last ten years. I also really love how we fight demons in this game instead of beating the living shit out of Monsters. The gameplay isn’t as fleshed out as Monster Hunter. I realized that as soon as I got control of my character. I don’t like how stiff the movements are, but I like the combat and I love grappling around the place with my demon gauntlet thingamabob.

I wasn’t digging the graphics at first, but when I got the central hub that changed. The game looks really nice, but the character models are last generation when compared to any game today. It looks leagues better than any Monster Hunter game though and that’s a major plus since we don’t have to worry about the old 3DS holding games back in the graphics department.

I haven’t done any hunter quest yet because I just got access to it, but so far I’m really digging this game. I want to jump back in and play some more, and mess around with some new weapons to see which ones are my favorite before I start crafting stuff. I also like how this game has a story that’s actually pretty interesting. I don’t know if it’s going to stay that way, but I’m into right now and that gives me another reason to want to play this game some more.

I was so into the game that I forgot to take some screenshots :)… oops.

Have you tried Toukiden 2? What’d you think of it?

I’m glad you checked it out and you’re enjoying yourself. I really liked Kiwami on PS4 and had a lot of fun with the Toukiden 2 demo. I’m hoping to get into it full-force later this year since it just kind of released at a bad time. Being crafted for Vita and built upon for PS4 and PC doesn’t do the graphics any favors, but it’s passable and doesn’t ruin any enjoyment the game offers. I really dig the weapon variety and how the bigger Oni fights work (sever those limbs!). Min/maxing the spirit buffs and spells/abilities also feels rewarding.

I’m really enjoying it dude. It’s definitely the best Monster Hunter clone I’ve played. It’s different and doesn’t try to copy Monster Hunter outside of it’s combat. This game released at a very bad time, but who would have thought that the beginning of this year would be so stacked with great games. Usually January-March only has one or two big releases and it’s usually a good time for a small IP like this one to release. I’m glad I got around to it though because I really like it so far.

The graphics aren’t the bets, but they do look better than Monster Hunter in my opinion. The weapon variety reminds me of Monster Hunter, but Monster Hunter has better weapons (so far) in my opinion :).

It does look pretty cool. I’ve heard the online co-op is a little shaky at times, but other than that it runs pretty well!

I hope online co op works good because I plan on playing this with my wife at some point. The game is pretty good right now and I’m having fun by myself beating the crap out of demons :).

I liked the original game and this one seems to be even better. Shame that the publisher didn’t release the title later in the year so it wouldn’t get lost in the shuffle. Right now I haven’t played much because Persona 5 is what I am focused on.
