Nintendo Switch PC Playstation 4 Top Ten List Top Ten Worst Games 28

My Top 10 Worst Games of 2018!

Spread the Word!

I’m doing things in reverse this year. I need some more time to come up with my top 10 best games of 2018 so while you wait for that I decided to release my official top 10 worst games of the year!

10. Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee

The Pokemon Let’s Go games… aren’t very good. They’re not super bad either and I can see these games being removed from this list if I play more bad games, but the odds of that happening are slim because I don’t like playing bad games. Who does right? Let’s Go Pikachu & Eevee are the worst Pokemon games ever made. I would place Pokemon Ranger above these and those were my previous least favorite Pokemon games and you can’t even win badges in those! This game was just too dumbed down and at the end of the day I have no impulse to ever play these again. They’re the only Pokemon games that I don’t want to play again after completion. Add the crap end game content, forced motion controls, and Go mechanics and you’ve got yourself a shitty Pokemon game that I can’t even recommend to new Pokemon players.

9. Overkill’s The Walking Dead

The cinematic trailers to this game were amazing. I was beginning to buy into them… until I saw the finished product. The trailers made this game look like a story driven, open world, co op zombie game. It’s just a wave based base defender and it’s not very good. It’s buggy and I’ve played games like this a lot over the years. It adds nothing to the genre and isn’t a very good multiplayer game.

8. Death’s Gambit

I was SO excited to finally play this game. 10 hours later I was finished and left incredibly disappointed. I don’t mind the short length, but I do mind a game that’s utter shit to play and near broken. Say what you want about Fallout 76, but at least I can play that game without crashing to desktop or moving at a million miles per hour. I don’t know if the issues with this game has been fixed or not and I wouldn’t care if they were because the game itself is a boring mess. The story sucks, the gameplay is terrible, and only saving grace is amazing pixelated art style and world.

7. Metal Gear Survive

I’m not a fan of the Metal Gear series. I could care less about Kojima leaving the company and crap like that. So I’m not biased when I say this is a bad game. This is basically a survival Metal Gear game and it doesn’t really bring anything worthwhile to the genre. It plays okay, but since I’m not a big fan of survival games to begin with this game did nothing for me. It’s better than Metal Gear Solid V, but that’s not saying much.

6. Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Hacker’s Memory

My first Digimon game since the DS was not a good introduction to the series. Hacker’s Memory is terrible and has one of the worst protagonist of all time. If he’s not making stupid expressions with his face he’s smiling weirdly at me… Seriously though this game is terrible. The gameplay is fine. I don’t mine turn based combat, but the city, digital world, and everything in between is absolutely horrible. I will never buy another one of these games.

5. Agony

Agony is a very pretty game… and that’s where the praise stops. The gameplay is terrible and after the strong opening moments this game went downhill. I wasn’t bothered by the over-sexualized monsters and other grotesque shit that I ran into in this game. It’s just really boring and has plenty of really, really boring stealth pieces. When I was done with this game I uninstalled it and never went back.

4. Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales

Where do I begin with this mess of a game? I hate Gwent and playing a 30 hour game of Gwent is not what I wanted from this game. It would have been so much better if it played more like Diablo or even a game like Pillars of Eternity instead of a subpar card game. But CD Projekt Red is hell bent on milking the shit out of Gwent and I expect them to keep doing it. They even shoehorned multiplayer rewards into their single player game. The story in this game is really good. The voice acting is also really good, but playing it to experience those things is boring and it’s one of the worst games I’ve played this year.

3. Bless Online

Bless Online had some hype when it released over here… and once everyone realized how shitty this MMO was they stopped playing and went back to their favorite games. The hate for Bless is deserved. This game has absolutely nothing going for it. The gameplay is terrible, it looks like shit, the story is crap, and you’re punished for teaming up with people because there’s a chance you won’t get any loot for it. This game is horrible and I hope they rework the game in a similar way that Square Enix did Final Fantasy 14 since it’s supposed to be going to Xbox on Unreal Engine 4.

2. Dragon Quest Builders

If you know me you’ll know that I love Dragon Quest. I was very excited when I booted up Dragon Quest Builders because it was a Dragon Quest. Well… that excitement quickly faded away and 10 hours in I was completely bored out of my mind while I played this game. It lacks build diversity, is only single player, and has an incredibly dull story. Building my hamlet was fun, but I was forced to start over again from scratch on a completely map with none the items that I had worked so hard to acquire during the first act. The music is also really terrible and I don’t understand why they don’t get rid of the orchestras and do something different.

1. Sea of Thieves

Sea of Thieves is what I like to call a do nothing simulator. Yes, you can ride around on a ship and complete the exact same 3 or 4 missions over, and over, and over again or you can just play something else. I tried this game out on PC with Game Pass, or a free trial or something I don’t remember, and I was completely bored from the time I started playing it until I put it down a few hours later. In a few hours I had already experienced 90% of what this game offered on launch. It’s a terrible game with no character growth or anything worthwhile to do. The customization sucks and it lacks fun. That’s the biggest problem. This game is complete trash and I’m really glad that I didn’t buy it because I knew I wouldn’t like it.

And that wraps up my top 10 worst games of 2018. What are some of the worst games you’ve played this year?

I’m glad I read this piece, I was looking into Thronebreaker thinking it’d be like Baldurs Gate but I can’t take any more Gwent!

If you look at screenshots you would think it would play like Baldur’s Gate or at least like Diablo, but it doesn’t. It’s a 30 hour card game.

I enjoyed Gwent in moderation in Witcher 3 but there is definitely such thing as too much of it!

In The Witcher 3 it was good because it was optional. Now there are TWO different Gwent games and none of them are very good. I can’t choose whether or not to play Gwent in this game because that’s the core gameplay of it :(. I really wish this was an ARPG or at least a CRPG not a card game with a good story…

Its a real waste of a story! Queen Meve was a cool character in the books so a game about her which isn’t bloody Gwent could’ve been great

I agree. It’s a big missed opportunity for sure!

I’ve been enjoying Let’s Go for about ~5 hours now, currently in the 3rd gym. I dunno, nothing’s really making me play it. I’ll have put in over a dozen hours in a week of Okami HD which is freaken incredible, yet when I play Let’s Go, I play for maybe 20 minutes and then I’m not.

When you stop playing something you log ~2 hours a week playing, and then can’t pull yourself away from another game from the second you start, it really makes you realize that maybe that first game wasn’t as good as you thought it was. Unfortunately the theme of 2018 has been disappointments, in and outside of gaming.

The only reason I binge played Let’s Go was for review purposes. Even when I was playing it everyday I had to force myself to boot it up. It’s not a good game in my opinion. I wanted to keep playing Dragon Quest 11 and forget all about Pokemon and I haven’t bothered to boot it up since I completed it last month. It’s really disappointing to me because I’m a HUGE Pokemon nerd lol.

I need to try Okami HD. I remember not liking the original game, but maybe I’ll feel differently today.

Too bad about Sea of Thieves. On a side note, I want a really awesome single player pirate adventure game to be released. Yarr! That would be amazing, haha. I don’t think I played anything I hated this year, thankfully!

My favorite pirate game at the moment is Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. I know it’s not technically a pirate game, but the ship combat is so good and I can be a major douche and attack smaller ships than mine if I want to :).

Sea of Thieves… was terrible in my opinion.

I am yet to be sold on Pokemon Let’s Go. Even when I’ve seen people praise it, it either ahsn’t been enough to make me want to invest in a Switch, or they’ve been praising teh similarities with Pokemon Go, which I really didn’t like at all.

To be completely honest with you this is a bare boned Pokemon game. Most people I know I don’t like the game. Pokemon Go is terrible and the fact that we have a whole 30 hour game to play in that style bothers me.

Aye. Go just didn’t feel like a Pokémon game at all to me.

I’ll admit, I was tempted to buy Walking Dead. I just might not now. The game looked amazing on first glance. The survival aspect and open-world experience the developers boasted about seemed like a combination I could not pass on. The trailers itself also looked well done. Imagine it. An open-world Walking Dead game. It almost seems too good to be true, and turns out, it is. Dang it.

I think those trailers had everyone wanting the game. Then it released… and it sucked lol. Have you seen the game in action? – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4AZf733Q7M

It’s… nothing like what they advertised it would be. And it was buggy as hell on launch day. I don’t know if they fixed the bugs, but if you are curious about it I would recommend waiting for a few patches and a major price drop.

I mean, that’s what a trailer is for, right? This is why you don’t pre-order games. And people still haven’t learned. A trailer does not define a game.

I rarely preorder games. I did with Pokemon Let’s Go because I’m a huge fan of the series and that game actually lived up to my expectations because I knew it wasn’t going to be very good. I’m not anti preorder. I think if you’re excited for something you have a right to preorder it.

Oh, I agree. I, however, very rarely pre-order for the fear that the game might not be as good as the developers claim it to be.

I use my best judgement. If it’s a developer that I trust then I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. If it’s one that I don’t then I usually wait for their games to go on sale.

See? That’s just the problem. Whenever I want to pre-order a game, I always think of the “slight chance” that it’s going to be terrible. Just look at the new Fallout.

I have to disagree with you on Fallout 76. I actually like the game and it’s no near as bad as I’ve heard. I actually wrote a piece about it. It’s disappointing because it should have been more than what it is, but it’s not terrible. People said the same thing about Mass Effect: Andromeda and I love that game. I’m not saying I love Fallout 76, but it’s not a bad game.

The problem I have with it is the actual lack of content. The world just feels barren to me.

To each their own dude :). I think the world is well designed and I love exploring it. It could use more content, but I knew that going in. Most online only games need more content at launch.

It was so bad. I actually paid $50 for that shit. I bought it because it was Dragon Quest. I thought I would love it, but I didn’t.

Awww that sucks, dude! I hope you were or are at least able to sell it and re-coup some losses. There are some people who’ll like it if they’re into Minecraft I suppose.

Someone stole that game from me, actually. Someone I’m related to. I’m pretty sure it was my sister’s son, but I have no way to prove that so…
