I’m looking forward to too many games this year to make a top 10. So I made it a top 20 instead!
I know next to nothing about this game. I saw a short trailer less than two minutes long and I already want to play this game. The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Bulletstorm, and Painkiller developers are making this game and I like what I saw so much that I decided to place it on my list. That trailer was fucking pretty too.
19. Bayonetta 3
Bayonetta 2 almost didn’t happen. Nintendo gave Platinum Games a chance and they knocked it out the park with Bayonetta 2. Bayonetta 3 is so low on the list because we haven’t seen any gameplay on it yet. I’m still super excited that it’s happening that it’s releasing on the Switch.
18. Kingdom Come: Deliverance
An RPG that doesn’t have dragons, trolls, or magic? What?! That’s blasphemy! But that’s what Kingdom Come: Deliverance is giving us and it looks fantastic. There are no wizards, or ghost to slay in this game. You play as an average joe that does things from fighting in the army to becoming a monk. Yes, I said a monk. You actually have to learn how to read in this game. That’s awesome! I am going to be so broke in February.
17. Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom
Ni No Kuni II looks really neat. I never played the first game, but since the second one is dropping on PC as well as the PS4 I’ll finally get a chance to experience this series first hand. I love the aesthetic and I have moderate expectations for this game.
16. Project Octopath Traveler
This game became a must buy for me after only 10 minutes of playing the demo last year. I love the aesthetic, characters, and dark tone that story has. I do have some concerns, but I’m super excited to play the full version of the game this year. It’s awesome that so many JRPGs are making their way to the Switch this year.
15. Cyberpunk 2077
The odds of this game releasing this year is slim. We have nothing to go on, but I can’t help but get excited when I think of what CD Projekt Red is working on. The Witcher 3 is a masterpiece and I have high expectations for this new IP. CD Projekt Red hasn’t made a bad game yet and they’re earned my trust. This would be much higher if we had more information on it.
14. Mega Man 11
Mega Man is finally getting another game! What?! That’s how I felt when I watched the Mega Man 11 trailer. I flipped the fuck out and cheered. People thought I was crazy, but I didn’t care. I need this game and I can’t wait for it to release. Mega Man is finally getting another fucking game. Please don’t fuck it up Capcom.
13. Dragon Quest 11
Dragon Quest 11 is coming to the West this year. I love it. I’m a huge Dragon Quest fan and it’s too bad they release do rarely here. I have high expectations for Dragon Quest 11 and even though there is no Switch release date announced I don’t mind picking this game up on my 3DS later this year.
12. Monster Hunter World
Monster Hunter World is finally on a different platform. It’s releasing on PC, PS4, and Xbox One X and it looks really good too. I prefer my Monster Hunter games on handheld devices, but I will end up buying this game one day. I’m holding out to see if Capcom releases it on the Switch at a later date. I’ve been right before in these kinds of situations so I’m going to wait for this one.
11. Madden 19
I haven’t played Madden in years. I really hope that will come to an end this year when EA releases this new Madden game. I don’t want to play Madden on PS4 or Xbox One. I want it on PC or the Switch. I want to break a run for a touchdown from the 10-yard line while sitting on my toilet. Is that too much to ask for EA?
Vampyr looks really interesting. It’s been a long time since I’ve played a game with a vampire main protagonist (Skyrim doesn’t count) and everything that I’ve seen on this game so far makes me want it even more. I don’t think there’s a release date announced for this game yet, but I do know that it’s releasing some time this year. Vampyr is a day one buy for me.
9. Metro Exodus
I can’t think of a game with a better atmosphere than the Metro games. They’re amazing games that focus more on their aesthetic than blowing shit up like other FPS games do. Metro Exodus is going to be fantastic and I can’t wait for it to release. I have every game in the series including the remakes and I’ve played through parts 1 and 2 multiple times.
8. Dynasty Warriors 9
I have February 8th marked on my calendar. That’s how much I’m looking forward to Dynasty Warriors 9. We have all of China available to us to explore and running from Lu Bu in an open world setting terrifies the hell out of me. Dynasty Warriors 9 has completely revamped the combat and making the series open world is a brand new direction for the long-running series. I hope it pays off. I’m super excited about this game.
7. Dark Souls Remaster
I haven’t played the first Dark Souls game since I owned a last generation console. It’s been too long and I can’t wait for this game to drop later this year. The best part is it’s releasing on the Switch. I plan on buying 3 copies of this game on release day. One for the Switch and two on PC. I can’t wait to praise the sun again!
Bioware’s upcoming multiplayer third-person shooter is one the most anticipated games of the year for me. I’ve been longing for a new multiplayer game to jump into since I’ve put hundreds of hours in The Division and Destiny 2 sucks. I have faith in Bioware and I don’t hate them like those bandwagon fans out there.
5. Bloodstained: Ritual of The Night/Death’s Gambit
I couldn’t choose between these two games and decided to add them both at number 5. Both of these games look amazing and it’s a good year to be a Metroidvania fan since both of them are releasing this year. Death’s Gambit will be a PC exclusive (for now at least) while Bloodstained: Ritual of The Night will be released on everything.
4. Soul Calibur VI
I can’t describe how excited I am to finally jump back into the Soul Calibur universe. Soul Calibur is my favorite fighting game series of all time and being able to play the 6th entry is a dream come true for me. I’m really excited to see what new features this entry will have and if they’re bringing their awesome create a character feature back.
3. Fire Emblem (Switch)
I don’t know if we’re going to get a new main entry to Fire Emblem this year on the Switch or not, but goddammit I’m excited anyway. I love Fire Emblem and I want to play it on my Switch. Fire Emblem Warriors good and all, but it can’t touch the main series. I need some more Fire Emblem in my life.
I think Pokemon will release this Winter on the Switch. I’ll never say no to more Pokemon games. When this game finally does release you guys probably won’t hear from me for awhile.
1. Total War: Three Kingdoms
This is the era that I’ve wanted a Total War game to take place in. I can run from Lu Bu in Total War and Dynasty Warriors now! That sounds great… and frightening at the same time, but I love it. Nothing comes close to the excitement that I felt when I saw that short trailer for this game and saw Guan Yu riding into battle with Liu Bei and Zhang Fei. I don’t care if it doesn’t follow the history %100 I just want to have an enjoyable experience and since I’m not a fan of the recent Total War games this one will bring me back to the series.
What are your most anticipated games of 2018?
