Oscar Nominations Thoughts

Spread the Word!

imagesI just got through going over the list of nominations for the Oscars and honestly I’m a little underwhelmed by it. It’s like the same movies were nominated over and over again. One thing that sort of surprised me was Hugh Jackman wasn’t nominated for his excellent performance in Prisoners. I think he at least deserves to be nominated. Movies like Nebraska, and Twelve Years A Slave are on the list. Honestly I thought Nebraska was really boring when I finally sat down and watched it but then again most “Oscar” worthy movies are quite boring in my honest opinion. Twelve Years A Slave was good but it’s just not my type of movie and I have seen better movies last year then it. I think we all know that Sandra Bullock is about to win her second Oscar and she deserves this one to for her role in Gravity. That’s another movie that I finally got a chance to watch and it was pretty good.

I don’t think it’s as good as everyone made it out to be but it was entertaining. I think either Christian Bale or Matthew McConaughey are going to win best actor. As for Best Picture I don’t really know. While I did like Gravity I don’t think it should be Best Picture. Right now i’m undecided because i’m not to crazy about the list that they came up with. You’ve might as well hand Frozen the award right now because we all know that’s going to win. If it was up to me i’ll give it to Despicable Me 2. Overall I think I might skip this year’s Oscar Awards like I did last year’s and the year before that.

I know I didn’t cover a lot of categories but that’s because they don’t interest me at all and I don’t think they’re worth talking about. I think Captain Phillips should win Best Picture this year. That or American Hustle. I’m shocked that Tom Hanks didn’t make the list considering his powerful performance in that movie. I think Tom Hanks gave the best performance of last year.

Interesting thoughts. I agree with many of them.

Though I will say Bullock does not have much buzz, really. That award race is between Cate Blanchett, Amy Adams and Judi Dench. In that order.

Meryl Streep is the dark horse. Bullock is the almost no chance but it was nice to be nominated candidate.

I wouldn’t be surprised if she won though. I was surprised the first time she won one because I thought Gabourey Sidibe was going to win for her performance in Precious.

Im still shocked that Redford was snubbed for All is Lost. I think MM has that award locked in.

I’m also undecided about BP. Gravity was the most entertaining of the list (still need to see Nebraska and Philomena), but I was underwhelmed by American Hustle and 12 Years a slave, so I’m gonna still have to think about this one.

Although I’m not much of a documentary fan, I cant believe that both Blackfish and Stories We Tell were also snubbed. They were both excellent movies

Nebraska was boring or at least to me it was. I liked American Hustle but I think BP should be Captain Phillips and I think Tom Hanks should have at least been nominated this year. It sucks that he isn’t.

As an anime fan I hope The Wind Rises wins an Oscar. It would be a good way of saying goodbye to the retiring legend Hayao Miyazaki. Besides I’m tired of seeing Disney/Pixar dominate the awards.

I love seeing Disney dominate the awards. I’m not an anime fan whatsoever and I can’t see one winning an Oscar over something like Frozen since we all know that’s the movie that’s going to win.
