Pokemon X&Y Mini Review

Spread the Word!

download (1)Pokemon X&Y are solid Pokemon Games and while they take a step in the right direction they also take more then one step backward. As usual when you start a Pokemon game you’ll be asked to choose a gender and you’ll end up in your mom’s house. She’ll tell you some random crap like she always does and  send you on your way. I actually found this to be a negative because I was really hoping for something different this time around instead of the same crap that’s been going on since Pokemon games came out back in the 90’s.

So far the only starter Pokemon that i’ve tried out is the fire one and it’s really good. I thought we were going to get pokemon-x-and-y2another Fire/Fighter hybrid but I was very surprised when my starter evolved into a Fire/Psychic type instead and it kicks all sorts of ass. I’m very curious about the other two starter Pokemon but they’ll have to wait for another time. The best thing about these new Pokemon Games has to be the battle system. It’s amazing and the animations are better then they’ve ever been. It’s like playing Pokemon Stadium for the old N64 but with better graphics, and instead of just battling random opponents you can win badges and catch new Pokemon.

Speaking of Pokemon, the new Pokemon that i’ve encountered are pretty good. So far I really like what i’m seeing and I can’t wait to see what the Legendary Pokemon in this game look like. The soundtrack is good just like every other Pokemon Game out there and you’ll often find yourself just standing around in town listening to your favorite tunes before you continue on your journey. One thing that’s different about this game is your rival. You have more then one this time around and you’ll bump into them quite often.

Now that the positive stuff is out the way lets get over to the negative. This game is too easy. You get an Exp Share at the very beginning of the game and instead of it just giving one Pokemon Exp like in the old days it gives it to the entire party. I actually turned mine off and played it the old school way because my team was just op. I have four badges right now and every single member of my party is pushing level 40. The last gym leader only had a 34 as his strongest Pokemon and I beat him easily. I have yet to be defeated in this game and that annoys me.

images I’m literally breezing through this game. Every trainer I fight is a good 8-10 levels under my entire Pokemon Team and the battles are over so quickly that I get bored and turn the game off after an hour. Another problem with this game is the camera angle. I actually wish it would have stayed the same like every other Pokemon game because the camera angle is terrible at times. It’s always too close or is focusing on something that’s not your character. When you’re outside in the grass looking for other Pokemon though it’s actually pretty good.

The story in these games are actually worse then the last few Pokemon Games so far. There is literally nothing happening and i’ve only run into Team Fire [or whatever their names are] twice and each time has been underwhelming. So far i’m just randomly going from town to town and winning badges. That would usually be enough but Pokemon has been around for a long time and I think it’s about time they started telling decent stories in their games.

As of right now I have mixed feelings about Pokemon X&Y. While the battle system is a breath of fresh air for the Pokemon Series the lack of a story, or good villains is making it hard for me to enjoy this game. The game is also way too easy and that’s just unacceptable. This is the easiest Pokemon Game I’ve ever played so far and i’m hoping that it gets challenging soon because at this rate by the time I reach the Pokemon League i’ll have a full party of level 60+’s. If I had to give this game a score right now it’ll be a solid 6.

I still have a quite a journey ahead of me though and i’m expecting that score to change pretty soon. Don’t forget to click on that Follow Us button for the latest sports, games, movies, and more. I hope you enjoyed reading this and if you did i’ll have more for you real soon.

This is a fantastic game. There are so many improvements over past Pokemon games but at the same time there is something lacking. I feel the game feels pretty easy to beat, literally I was never challanged by and of the trainers or gym leaders which is a shame.

Despite it’s minor drawbacks this game is very solid and great fun to play. definitely a must for Pokemon fans.

I agree and disagree. There are definitely better Pokemon Games out there. The only thing this game has going for it are the nice graphics, and battle system. Everything else is lacking so far and I have 5 badges.

I liked this game, but then again I don’t play every Pokemon release (so I am not as fatigued on the franchise as other players.) I approved of the graphical face lift and online features such as the random trading.

The XP share does make things a cakewalk, but I don’t mind as I detest grinding. In older games I tend to have one OP Pokemon and the rest are weaklings. In this game I managed to have a balanced team.
