Salt and Sanctuary is a mix of Dark Souls, and Castlevania and it’s pretty impressive so far.
The last two and half hours of my life have gone to Salt and Sanctuary. I liked this game from the moment I started it. The gameplay reminds me more of Castlevania then Dark Souls because of all of the platforming that I’ve been doing. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve jumped to death by mistiming my jumps.
Salt and Sanctuary becomes more like Dark Souls with the whole salt system that’s in the game. You use your salt to level up/upgrade equipment and when you die, which will be often in this game, you’ll lose them all. The only way to get your salt back is by killing the enemy that killed you last or entity that was summoned where you died.
I’ve beaten three bosses so far and each of them have really impressed me. The gameplay is fantastic and I love the freedom that I have with the customization. The skill tree is huge, but I’ve mapped out what I want to invest in and what I won’t bother getting already.
Salt and Sanctuary is a mix of two of my favorite games and it’s really impressive so far. The only real bug that I’ve encountered is a pretty weird one that’s caused me to die a few times already. My game would randomly alt+tab out while I’m doing things and it’s pretty annoying. The PC port isn’t perfect too. For starters it shows a Xbox layout instead of the mouse and keyboard controls. This really bugs me because I shouldn’t have to figure out what button does what in a PC game.
I’m really looking forward to jumping back in Salt and Sanctuary and my review of the game should be up shortly along with Doom. Homefront will also be getting a review from me, but it’s going to come a little late since I’m focusing on Doom and this game right now.
