Skyrim Special Edition is here and it’s the same ole Skyrim with a facelift.I’m not going to write about how much I love Skyrim. I have a ton of articles that explains my love for the game already. What I’m going to write about is the special edition and how I have mixed feelings on it right now.
On one hand it’s nice to be able to play Skyrim again and not have to depend on mods to make my game look glorious, but on the other hand I know that my original Skyrim looked 10000 times better. The main thing that Skyrim Special Edition has going for it is that it’s now 64 bit which makes a big difference in the modding world. The old 32 bit Skyrim would crash regularly when it was heavily modded, but that won’t happen this time around.
Another thing that this new version of Skyrim has going for it are the extra features. God rays were not in regular Skyrim and they’re glorious in this one. This adds extra modding potential to the game.
Skyrim Special Edition is basically the original Skyrim with Bethesda’s official HD retexture pack. That’s not a bad thing, but it’s not really a good one either. My 2K texture pack that I’ve been using for years on the original Skyrim look better than all of the enhanced textures in this remaster. The snow still looks like white pudding, and the character models only look a little better to me. I still want to mod them because I know I can make them look better.
Playing through vanilla Skyrim again feels weird to me. Don’t get me wrong I love it, but I miss Skyrim Redone, Immersive Armors/Weapons, and Sky UI. Sky UI is a essential mod to have for Skyrim. It reworked the entire UI of the game from that ugly shit that Bethesda called a UI. It’s a must have mod and I’m sad to inform everyone that it won’t be coming to Skyrim Special Edition. The mod author announced that he is not working on a upgrade because it’s no longer fun to him.
Skyrim Special Edition is still Skyrim, but most of the modders that’s made it special over the years have moved on to other projects or are no longer modding. I don’t think this version of Skyrim will ever match what we’ve had for years already.
If you’ve never played Skyrim I would recommend getting this game. It does look better and perform much better than the original Skyrim did, but if you want to mod Skyrim stick with the original.

and now here’s a screenshot of my Skyrim
Here’s another screenshot of Skyrim Special Edition
And here’s one more of my original Skyrim
I think I’m going to stick with regular Skyrim for a few months and wait for the modding to take off on Special Edition. What do you think of the new Skyrim?
