Survivor Series (2018) Review

Spread the Word!

Survivor Series is over and everyone is talking about Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair. But how was the rest of card? Here’s my review of Survivor Series.

Tag Team Survivor Series Elimination Match (Kickoff Show) — The Usos, New Day, SAnity, The Good Brothers & The Colons (SmackDown) VS The Revival, Bobby Roode & Chad Gable, Lucha House Party, The Ascension & The B-Team (Raw)

This match was an overcrowded mess at first. It had some nice spots with Big E splashing Wilder through the ropes and Chad Gable performing an insane German suplex off the top ropes. Outside of those two moments though this match was mostly boring and was only on the card because WWE wanted New Day to have a match on the PPV.

Winner – Team Smackdown

Grade – C

Women’s Elimination Match — Nia Jax, Sasha Banks, Bayley, Mickie James, & Tamina Snuka (Raw) vs Asuka, Carmella, Naomi, Sonya Deville & TBD (SmackDown)

Nia Jax was booed heavily in this match. I mean… she did break The Man’s (Becky Lynch) face and cost her a match with Ronda Rousey so she totally deserves it. This match, like the one above, wasn’t very good. I like how the crowd booed Nia Jax every time she did anything though. Asuka was the MVP here and it’s a shame she hasn’t accomplished anything ever since her call up from NXT. In the end Nia Jax pinned Asuka and won the match for team Raw and got booed to oblivion. I’m surprised Nia didn’t injure anyone in this match since that’s her thing now.

Winner – Team Raw

Grade – C+

Seth Rollins vs Shinsuke Nakamura

Our first champion vs champion match was a good one. I wanted Shinsuke to win and him losing only proves that WWE doesn’t know what to do with him. Seth Rollins and Shinsuke Nakamura put on a good match that started off a bit slow, but turned into something great near the end. Rollins and Nakumura couldn’t put each other away. Seth hit three suicide dives and later on performed his amazing superplex off the top ropes followed by his falcon arrow to a near fall. Shinsuke answered with a near fall of his own after dodging a frog splash and hitting the kin shasa. I thought it was over there, but nope. Rollins kicked out and eventually won with the his finisher. It was a good match and the crowd went absolutely nuts.

Winner – Seth Rollins

Grade – B+

AOP vs The Bar

The worst match of the night is definitely this one. Very little happened, no one had any chemistry together, and it was over in a few minutes. The most memorable thing that happened was that one dude (forgot his name) that pissed himself out of fear when the Big Show grabbed him. Shortly after that AOP nailed Sheamus with a move and it was over before it really started.

Winner – AOP

Grade – D+

Cruiserweight Championship – Buddy Murphy vs Mustafa Ali

This is by far the match of the night. These two guys put on one hell of a show. Buddy Murphy was the dominant champion for most of the match, but no matter what he did Mustafa Ali would battle through it and almost come away with a win, but my man Buddy Murphy got the win and continues his reign as the top dog on 205 live. I could watch these two wrestle all night long and not be disappointed.

Winner – Buddy Murphy

Grade – A

Men’s Elimination Match — Braun Strowman, Dolph Ziggler, Drew McIntyre, Finn Balor & Bobby Lashley (Raw) vs The Miz, Shane McMahon, Rey Mysterio, Jeff Hardy & Samoa Joe (SmackDown)

I knew the outcome of this match before it even happened. There’s no way WWE is going to let Braun Strowman and Drew Mcintyre lose. Team Raw dominated the much smaller Team Smackdown and eventually won. What more needs to be said? This was not a good match and it ended the exact same way as last year’s match. Shane was the last one in the ring against 3 Raw superstars and was quickly disposed of.

Winner – Team Raw

Grade – D

Ronda Rousey vs Charlotte Flair

If you believe the Internet this is a 5 star match. I don’t. It only got good after Charlotte Flair got herself disqualified. If anyone can have a good match with Ronda it’s Charlotte. Everyone Ronda has faced so far has been subpar at best. Stephanie, Nia Jax, Alexa Bliss, and Nikki Bella have all had very poor matches with Ronda Rousey. We’re supposed to believe that she’s the baddest woman on the planet though… Charlotte and Ronda had a good match. It was the best of Ronda’s short WWE career by far, but it’s not a classic. It didn’t outdo the amazing match that Becky and Charlotte had at evolution and it’s not even the best match on this card. I do not like Ronda Rousey. This match didn’t change that. Charlotte carried this match and made Rousey look good. That’s my opinion and I stand by it. It’s not a 5 star match or anywhere in the ballpark or being a 5 star match, but I enjoyed it for what it was.. and wasn’t much.

Winner – Ronda Rousey

Grade – C+

Daniel Bryan vs Brock Lesnar

You all know Brock Lesnar ain’t losing no matches until it’s time for him to drop the Universal title again. This match started off really boring and was putting me to sleep. Daniel Bryan eventually made things interesting, but I liked last year’s match between Brock and A.J Styles more than this one. This was still good though and had some nice spots and memorable moments.

Winner – Brock Lesnar

Grade – C+

And that’s Survivor Series folks! It wasn’t very good and I feel like I wasted a few hours of my life watching this shit. The best match of the night was for the Cruiserweight title and Smackdown was buried hard here. They only won a single match and it didn’t even count according to the WWE.

Survivor Series Total Grade – C

Since winning the Rumble poor Asuka has been booked poorly. Once again the company doesn’t know how to best use talent.

Yep. Asuka is now a comedy character with Naomi…
