After 6 hours of gameplay I think I’m ready to give my official first impression on The Division.
I did not think I would like The Division at all. I was very vocal about my distrust in Ubisoft because they’re known for downgrading their games in one way or another.
The Division has been downgraded, but you’ll be blind if you said this was an ugly game. This is one of the best looking games that’s released this year. I can only think of one game that looks better and that’s Rise of The Tomb Raider [PC].
The world looks amazing and it’s filled with different things for me to do. I was really skeptical when I booted up this game because I had read so many negative things about it that I expected to play the worst third person shooter ever made. That’s far from the case here.
The Division plays beautifully. It’s plays like your typical third person shooter for sure, but the controls are excellent, the gunplay is nice and smooth, and the gadgets that I can use in a firefight are awesome. I love launching a sticky grenade at an enemy and watching them explode and activating my radar to see where every enemy is hiding. It’s a lot of fun and I can’t wait to play this game with my wife. I have a small headstart, but I plan on catching her up with me once she gets the game.
I’ve only done three story missions so I can’t really give my opinion on the story until I get more time in. Most of my time has been spent exploring New York City and this is where the real meat of The Division is. Exploring is rewarding in this game. I’ve found new beanies, I love my beanies, jackets, and guns.
If I stop to help a civilian in need by giving them one of my medkits or some soda they’ll drop a piece of gear for me to use. I actually got my first beanie this way and it was awesome. As I walked down New York City I heard civilians that I passed praising my efforts and yelling out, “good job!”.
I’ve been completely immersed in The Division since I’ve started playing it and I’m having a lot of fun with it right now. It remains to be seen how long the game will last me, but since this is a MMO I’m hoping it’ll last me as long as Warframe has and, if I’m really lucky, Guild Wars 2.
There’s still a lot I haven’t done in The Division yet. I haven’t gone to the dark zone yet. I think I unlock that as I play. I’m no rush at the moment because I’m having so much fun with all the pve content at the moment. I’m still learning how to craft my own guns, and clothes. Breaking down weapons, and clothing items is smarter then selling them because I get more crafting materials that way, but I didn’t know that until three hours in because I didn’t know the game had crafting until I found a crafting station :].
The little that I’ve played of The Division is enough for me to recommend this game to anyone that enjoys third person shooters. If you like taking cover, leveling up, getting new loot, and playing with friends then you’ll most likely like The Division. If you don’t like any of that then you won’t like it and you shouldn’t buy it. I know I can’t wait to get back in game later tonight because this game is a lot of fun and I plan on enjoying the hell out of it.
