The Elder Scrolls Legends First Impression

Spread the Word!

I finally got a chance to play The Elder Scrolls Legends today and it’s just oozing with potential to be a great card game.

I was introduced to The Elder Scrolls Legends over the course of a two hour tutorial that played throughout the story mode. Usually I loathe tutorials of any kind, but this game managed to keep me interested the entire time.

The gameplay started off really simple, but as I progressed through the story it opened up a lot more and introduced new gameplay mechanics to me. Once I finished the tutorial I was thrown into a match with a Argonian smuggler and I had to use everything I had previously learned over the last 2 hours to take him down.

I love how the different decks play and the art on the cards are really nice too. The game does look a little bland right now, but I’m hoping it’ll look better once it’s out of beta. Right now every match is on a brown map. It feels lifeless, but the gameplay is really good and I can see myself putting some more time into the beta since the new Magic game sucks so hard right now.

I haven’t touched vs mode yet, but I can’t wait to jump into it. I want to build my deck up a little more, but I refuse to spend real cash to do it. It’s funny that this is a beta with a fully functional cash shop :]. That’s probably the first thing Bethesda decided to get up and running. I’m not against putting 5 dollars in the game if it’s really good, but I don’t think it is yet.

The Elder Scrolls Legends has a ton of potential to be a really great card game. So far I really like what I’ve been playing and hopefully Bethesda will continue to move this game in the right direction. There are a few things that I would love to see expanded on in the near future and I’ll list them below.

  1. Revamp the battle map because it’s plain and boring to look at.
  2. Let us see the cards special abilities. If I’m using a archer card why does it charge into another card to kill it? Why not let it attack from a distance? 3.
  3. Make the starting race I choose do what it says it’s going to do. I chose a Orc as my starting race because it said I would find more Orc cards to play with. I only found 2 in 2 hours. Everything else was human cards. Maybe you guys should look into that.

That’s all I have right now. I’m pretty sure I’ll find more things that I want changed as I play and I’ll update this when I do.

Have you played The Elder Scrolls Legends? What did you think of it if you did?
