The Elder Scrolls Online Requires A Monthly Subscription

Spread the Word!

This actually made my day and i’ll tell you why. When the Elder Scrolls Online was first announced there was more negative surrounding it than positives. Many people including myself thought that this game would fail for one reason. Zenimax would make an average MMO and just put the Elder Scrolls name on the cover and in my opinion that’s exactly what happened.

Nothing that I have seen so far has led me to believe that this game will be any better than the average MMO and for Zenimax to have the balls to add a monthly subscription. Come on guys… don’t act surprised. We all knew this would happen. I thought the smarter way to handle this would be to do what Guild Wars 2 did. Make the game buy to play. Here’s what Matt Firor had to say on the subject

“The Elder Scrolls games are all about allowing the player to go where they want, be who they want, and do what they want. We feel that putting pay gates between the player and content at any point in game ruins that feeling of freedom, and just having one small monthly fee for 100% access to the game fits the IP and the game much better than a system where you have to pay for features and access as you play. The Elder Scrolls Online was designed and developed to be a premium experience: hundreds of hours of gameplay, tons of depth and features, professional customer support – and a commitment to have ongoing content at regular intervals after launch. This type of experience is best paired with a one-time fee per month, as opposed to many smaller payments that would probably add up to more than $14.99/month any way. ”

Is this guy serious? Guild Wars 2 has twice the content in it and I don’t have to pay a monthly fee. This game will be free to play within a year of it’s release. First of all this “Elder Scrolls” game doesn’t even fucking remind me of the Elder Scrolls! It’s your average MMO with a Elder Scrolls title slapped on the cover.

You’ve might as well save yourself some money and wait until the sales don’t meet their expectations or just go and play Guild Wars 2. Hell WildStar is coming out pretty soon you’ve might as well go and pay a subscription for that. That game looks a lot better than this. What we got here is the bare minimum on what a Elder Scrolls game should be. They’re catering to MMO fans not Elder Scrolls fans. They had to add first person combat in the game after they realized what a mess they would be in if they released it without it.

Sorry for the rant guys but I had to get that out my system. This is just their attempt at making more money. That’s the way I see it. There are really great MMO’s out there that don’t require an online subscription. I think that if I buy a game then it’s mine but constantly paying for it every month kind of makes it feel like a very expensive rental at best. Alright guys i’ll simply end this by saying I hope you enjoyed reading this and if you did i’ll have more for you real soon.
