Welcome back to The Game News Bar. Have a seat, grab a beer, and get ready for a rundown of all of the latest game news that I’ve collected for this week’s edition of The Game News Bar.
Creative Assembly Grants A Dying Wish
A Redditor that goes by the name TheMissingLink5 released a story about his dying brother and the love he had for Creative Assembly’s Total War games. TheMissingLink5 brother’s dying wish was to play Total War Three Kingdoms. The Reddit community reached out to Creative Assembly and told them what was going on. How did they respond? By sending a review copy of Total War Three Kingdoms to TheMissingLink5 so he could install it for his brother. TheMissingLink5’s brother passed away on May 19th after playing Total War Three Kingdoms for a few days. My heart goes out to TheMissingLink5 and you did a good big brother thing. I will not be posting a picture of either man out of respect and if you want to catch up on what’s going on click here for the Reddit post.
It’s amazing that the Total War community came together to help grant a dying wish to a man dying of Leukemia. We’re always reading about the worst of people and it’s very heartwarming to read something like this and I hope TheMissingLink5 knows that we’re all here for him during this hard time he is undoubtedly going through.
Watch Dogs 3 Rumor
The latest Watch Dogs 3 rumor is… not being taken well by fans of the Watch Dogs series. The rumor states that there will be no guns in Watch Dogs 3, have a female protagonist (which is a welcome addition to the series in my opinion and so far no one is complaining about that), and will be set in the UK. I’m down for 2 of those 3, but the deal breaker is the lack of guns. If this rumor is true Watch Dogs 3 will be dead on arrival. You can’t take away a major part of the series and replace it with nonlethal weapons. That would be like the next Splinter Cell game launching without stealth as an option. That being said I don’t consider myself a Watch Dogs fan. I’ve never played through a single one of them. I do own the first one and I quit after 2 hours of gameplay. It just wasn’t for me, but I have been considering going back to it to give it another chance. Let’s hope this rumor is false.
Massive Will Not Lower The Difficulty of The Division 2’s Raid
Massive have put their foot down with their own fans. They said that the raid is supposed to be this difficult and they have no plans on lowering the difficulty of it. They said it should be incredibly hard and that it matches their vision for the game. Do you want to know the problem with that? Only 1% of their player base has actually completed the game. People are upset that the raid is too hard and the average person that plays this game doesn’t have 7-10 hours to sit down and complete this ONE mission. It’s absolutely ridiculous and Massive is fucking stupid for releasing a statement like this. They obviously care more about their elitist asshole players over everyone else. That’s the message they’re sending here. The Division 2 is filled with toxic players and Massive is empowering them by not listening to the majority of their fans.
The Division 2 sold a fraction of what the first game did. You would think they would want to keep what players they have now happy. This is not a good developer. They don’t listen to their fans like Digital Extremes and even Bungie. This developer is nerf crazy and does what they want to cater to the top %1 of their fans and that’s fine.
Dauntless Is The First True Crossplay Game Between PS4, Xbox One, And PC
Dauntless (a pretty good free to play Monster Hunter Clone) has finally launched on consoles and has crossplay between them. That means that if you have a PS4 and your buddy has an Xbox One or PC you’ll be able to play with them. Am I the only one surprised that Sony managed to pull their heads from up their asses and allow this? If you love Monster Hunter odds are you’ll love Dauntless too. It’s not as deep as Monster Hunter and it doesn’t need to be. Its simplicity is its strength in my opinion.
Cyberpunk 2077’s Development Compared To Anthem’s By Former Employee
I consider this a non-story, but I’m covering it anyway. A former CD Projekt Red employee has compared Cyperpunk 2077’s development to Anthem. He or she has stated that it’s actually worse than Anthems’. Why are we just hearing about this now then? Why has no one else come forward? Where’s your proof? It’s just you blowing smoke as far as I’m concerned. You were probably fired or quit because you were unhappy and decided to pull this story out of your ass to throw shade at your former employer. I call bullshit on this one, but if you’re one of those people that need ZERO evidence to jump on the hate train go ahead.
The Witcher 3 Sold More On PC Than Consoles
45% of the sales The Witcher 3 generated is on PC and that doesn’t surprise me one bit. The Witcher has always been considered a PC series. It originated on PC and the first time a PlayStation console saw a Witcher game was with The Witcher 3. The surprising (well… maybe not so surprising) is that the Xbox One version of The Witcher 3 sold the poorest and only moved 15.5% of the copies while the PS4 moved a modest 39.5%. Obviously, if you combine them then the consoles would be winning, but we’re going by single platforms here. The Witcher has always had a really strong PC community and it shows in the sales figures. It also helps that you can buy the game with the DLC for $20 when it’s on sale and it’s on sale a lot.
Path of Exile 4.0 Plans On Going Against Diablo 4
Grinding Gear Games has announced that they’re working on their next big expansion for Path of Exile. The only thing of note that they said is that there will be no crunch (apparently that’s a thing now) and that it’s going to take on Diablo 4. That last part made me chuckle because I’m sure Blizzard isn’t worried about you guys one bit. They’re too busy making that shitty phone game that no one asked for. I love Path of Exile, but this felt more like an attack on Blizzard than a game announcement. I like it though and I can’t wait to get some real information about the next Path of Exile expansion.
Resident Evil 2 Has Sold Really Well
At the rate that Resident Evil 2 is selling it’ll most likely pass Resident Evil 7 by the end of the year. It’s already moved over 4 million units by the end of March so odds are these numbers are probably closer to 5 million which would mean that it’s outsold the original Resident Evil 2 game. Capcom has a decision to make. Will they keep Resident Evil first person with Resident Evil 8 or keep it like Resident Evil 2 Remake? My vote goes to the latter.
Zenimax and Bookbreeze Reached An Agreement On That Redfall trademark.
Zenimax and Bookbreeze have been battling for the rights of the Redfall name for a year now. The big problem is that there’s a series of books named Redfall and was written by Jay Falconer. Apparently, both sides have reached an agreement. So is the next Elder Scrolls game going be called Redfall? That would mean that we’re going to Hammerfell and not High Rock like so many people (including me) have thought.
Super Neptunia RPG Will Release On PC Before Consoles
Japanese games usually never release on PC before their console counterparts and that’s what’s happening here. Is this because of the Sony censorship policies? Regardless of whether or not that’s the case, the upcoming Super Neptunia RPG will release on PC on June 20th and on the Switch and PS4 on June 25th.
