Welcome back to The Game News Bar. Have a seat, grab a beer, and get ready for a rundown of all of the latest game news that I’ve collected for this week’s edition of The Game News Bar.
Pokemon Sword & Shield
Let’s Start with the big news. The Pokemon Direct from Nintendo was everything I hoped it would be and I saw a bunch of neat changes to the usual Pokemon formula. For starters, you can move the camera now! The short trailer showed a trainer fishing, catching Pokemon, and exploring a vast landscape. Is this game open world or just have open zones? You can also see Pokemon like you could in Let’s Go, but it’s a step up from that because this game, at least from what I saw in the trailer, is much bigger than Let’s Go. There are big stadiums scattered around Galar and each of them has a gym leader for you to face off against. There’s big crowds and a new mechanic called Dynamax. Dynamax is is a super-sized Pokemon that each gym leader is supposed to have on them. There’s also local and online multiplayer and it’s not just your standard online PVP battles. Max Raid Battle is one of the modes.
This mode will let you and group of friends, or randoms, and fight a Dynamax Pokemon. The Pokemon you fight will be completely random and you’ll have to work with your team of trainers to take it down and have a chance to catch it. I can get behind this. You can buy either Sword or Shield or buy the double pack that was announced. I’m getting the double pack so I can give the other game to my wife.
Anthem’s Cataclysm DOA?
Not many people are excited about the cataclysm event for Anthem. Bioware has really backed themselves into a corner here and it’s do or die for them at this point. I liked Anthem. I thought that a lot of the hate for the game was overblown just because it’s an EA game. That being said it’s the worst game Bioware has ever made and it needs a complete rework to be successful in my opinion. Hype for Anthem is at an all-time low and Bioware needs to have something incredible up their sleeves for this game to make any form of comeback.
The Cataclysm was originally supposed to be this world-altering event that had lasting consequences, but it’s been changed. It’s just a timed event now. It’s not enough to get me to log back on. I need more than that to return to the game.
The Next Modern Warfare Game Will Have No Zombie Mode and Apparently Made People Cry…
The next Modern Warfare game will be the most realistic shooter ever made according to one of the developers. It apparently made some playtesters cry. Why is this a story? Everything gets people emotional these days. It’s just the times we live in now. So that doesn’t really impress me. What does sound impressive is that it will have no zombie mode, feature full cross-play support (I can’t wait for all of the console players to whine about losing to PC players), and will be centered around the terror attacks in London and civil war in Syria. They said it’ll be completely unfiltered. I guess we’ll see. Either way, it’ll be my first Call of Duty game since Advanced Warfare.
Multiple Classic Games Announced For Nintendo Switch
Neverwinter Nights, Baldurs Gate 1 & 2, Planescape Torment, and Icewind Dale will be releasing on the Nintendo Switch and they’ll all have physical copies as well as digital. I’m not sure if I’m willing to buy these games again since I own all of them on GOG already, but it’s really tempting to grab those physical copies. They’ll release on September 24th.
Dead by Daylight Heading To Switch
Dead by Daylight will be on the Switch later this year. It’s set for release on September 24th. A new roadmap has been revealed that includes 4 new chapters. I’m guessing that’ll be heading to the Switch too.
Xbox Game Pass Announced For PC
There is already a form of Game Pass for PC already. This gives you access to every cross play game that the Xbox One has. This new version of game pass seems much better than the one on Xbox One since you’ll be getting access to PC exclusive games from PC developers like Paradox. I’ll be keeping tabs on this and will update this when more information is released.
The Next Fable Will Be A Complete Reboot
A leak claims that the next Fable game will be a complete reboot of the series and will focus on some sort of world-ending event that only a few people survived. Those people being Jack-of-Blades, Theresa, and the Heroes Guild. This game is supposedly completely open world, will have an expansive character creator, no guns, and will let you build your own town that ties into the main story. You can also ignore your main quest like you can in Skyrim and do your own thing according to the leak. If this is true the next Fable game will be fantastic. I’ve always had a major soft spot for Fable and I really want the next game in the series to be successful.
Death Stranding Coming To PC?
This is highly unlikely because this is a Sony-funded game if I’m not mistaken. A leak revealed that Death Stranding is on a one year timed exclusivity deal and will release on PC exactly one year after it’s official release on the PS4. Take this with a big grain of salt. I have no plans to buy Death Stranding right now. I haven’t seen enough and I’m not a Kojima fan so I have no obligation to blindly support his work.
Gunvolt Chronicles Luminous Avenger iX Announced
I’m a big fan of the Gunvolt games so I’m pretty excited about this. The next Gunvolt game will be released on September 26th for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC. Sorry, Xbox!
A New Darksiders Game To Be Revealed At E3?
I’ve always had mixed feeling on the Darksiders series. I enjoyed what I played of the first game, but I never really cared for any of the other ones. That being said, there will be a new Darksiders game shown off at E3 or at least that’s how the rumor goes. The new game will be called Darksiders: Action Adventure Evolved.
Collection of Mana Collection E3 Announcement?
Square Enix has trademarked Collection of Mana and the Internet has gone crazy. Does this mean we’ll be seeing this shown off at their E3 conference?
Northgard Announced For Consoles
We’re seeing a lot of strategy games come to consoles these days. I’ll personally never touch them because I need a mouse and keyboard for that entire genre, but if you love strategy games and your controller you might want to check this game out. Northgard will release on the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PS4.
Ghostbusters Video Game Getting A Remaster
The remaster of the remaster is coming to every platform later this year. I’ve never played this game so I might check it out if it looks good. The trailer that released showed off some pretty impressive graphics and the original voice actors from the movie will still be the voice actors in this game, which is good.
Cadence of Hyrule Releasing Some Time This Month
This looks like it could potentially be the best Zelda game on the Switch. Cadence of Hyrule is a Necrodancer themed Legend of Zelda game and it looks absolutely incredible. I can’t wait to see more of this game shown off.
And that’s all I have for you on this edition of The Game News Bar. What bit of news has you excited? What did I miss? Let me know!
