The Secret World First Impression

Spread the Word!

I finally caved and purchased the Secret World last night. After an extremely long download I finally got a chance to play it and it’s actually really good.

The Secret World isn’t like most MMO’s. There is no fantasy setting with bright beautiful colors and over the top looking character models. This game is different. It’s set in our world and our characters dress the way we do and I think that’s pretty cool. This is a modern day MMO with an impressive story so far.

maxresdefault (1)The voice acting isn’t great like Star Wars The Old Republic, but I would rank it higher than Guild Wars 2. The Secret World isn’t a new MMO, but it’s not that old either. It’s about the same age as Guild Wars 2, but doesn’t have nearly as many people playing the it and that’s a shame since I’m having a lot of fun with it right now.

Instead of choosing our character class we kind of make it up as we go along in the game. If you want your character to be good with shotguns just pick one up and start blasting shit with it. You can use the points that you collect to rank up your shotgun skills or if you want to go on a more magical route you can always level up your blood magic and yes it’s actually blood magic and it’s really cool.

My character specializes in blood magic and assault rifles. I kind of regret that choice because of how many enemies rush me with melee attacks. I think a shotgun would have been an awesome mix with my blood magic, but I could always make the change if I get too annoyed with it later on.

The-Secret-World-PCThe gameplay is like Guild Wars 2. It’s point and click mixed with action RPG. You can’t just press the number 1 once and expect to watch your character auto attack their way to victory. You have to keep pressing numbers 1 through 6. I really like how I can mix my two fighting styles together. I can go from blasting zombies with my assault rifle to casting them to death with blood magic with the press of a button.

I’m really enjoying The Secret World right now. It’s a lot better then I originally thought and I can’t believe I waited this long to jump in the game. It still has a good amount of people playing and so far I haven’t come across any unwinnable battles that I can’t get out of by myself and that’s always a good thing in games like this.

If you’re looking for a cheap MMO, it’s about $10 right now on Steam and even cheaper on G2A, that’s not your typical fantasy MMO give this game a shot and see if you like it. It might just surprise you.

Downloading an established MMO can indeed take forever due to patches. This game looks okay. I’m surprised most titles don’t try to use a real world setting.

The real world setting is what got me to play it. So far I’m in love with it.
