After a pretty long break from making top 10 list I’ve decided to continue my quest to make a top 10 game list for every year that I’ve been born. Here is part 4 of my top 10 game list.
10. Star Wars X-wing
Before video game movies were complete shit we got gems like this. Star Wars X-wing is one of the best Star Wars games I’ve ever played and it’s aged pretty well when you consider how long ago it released.
9. Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Zombies Ate my Neighbors is great co op game to play. I used to spend hours playing this game with my brother back in the day. We were just two little kids having fun killing zombies together and back then simple games like this was all you needed to have fun.
I didn’t play this game until much later in my life. I’m a huge Shadowrun fan and it all started with this game. The story, and dialogue is by far the best on this list of games.
My favorite cartoon in the 90’s was X-men and one of the best games that released in 1993 was Sega’s X-men. Wolverine, Cyclops, Gambit, and more are among the roster of X-men in this game. Every stage brought new challenges, and boss fights for us to go up against.
6. Mortal Kombat II
The best version of this game is on the Sega Genesis. The Snes version lacked blood so it made fatalities feel less impactful than it’s Sega counterpart. Mortal Kombat II is probably the best game in the series. I loved the unique look to this game and the gameplay is still unmatched in fighting games.
5. Shining Force II
Shining Force is to Fire Emblem what Golden Sun was to Final Fantasy. It’s a good game that never surpassed the game it got it’s inspiration from. Shining Force II is a great entry to the SRPG genre. Shining Force II is a good game that’s often overlooked in it’s genre.
4. Phantasy Star IV
Before Phantasy Star was a action RPG it was one of the best JRPGs of all time. Phantasy Star IV can’t compete with the three that came before it, but it’s still a fantastic game.
3. The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
Link’s Awakening is probably my all time favorite game on Gameboy. Most people expected a dumbed down experience because this game was released on a handheld device, but it’s not. It’s a real Legend of Zelda game and it one of the best Zelda games I’ve ever played.
2. Castlevania: Rondo of Blood
Rondo of Blood is good. I’m a huge Castlevania fan. It’s one of my all time favorite game series and I still play the old games in the series today. This game, and the one above it, swap places regularly when I think about my favorite games of 1993. I could just call them both my favorite game of 1993, but today I like the next game more so I’m going with that.
Rondo of Blood is a classic that’s aged very well.
1. Secret of Mana
Before Square Enix there was Squaresoft and they made fantastic games that weren’t called Final Fantasy. Secret of Mana is one of the best games of it’s era and it’s aged beautifully. The game is still nice to look at, and it’s still fun to play.
What are your favorite games of 1993?
