My second review for the Nintendo Switch is here. Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers is a great fighting game with a lot issues. Read on to find out what I think of it.
Street Fighter II is the best fighting game of all time. This version of it is no different. The gameplay is fantastic, but why is this game on the Switch? I bought to support it because I want Capcom to release more games on the console, but releasing Street Fighter II for $40 is wrong in my opinion.
Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers is fun to play. It still has the classic arcade mode and versus mode. Unfortunately there’s no car smashing mini game this time around, but it has a great cast of characters including Evil Ken, and Dark Ryu. That’s not enough for me to justify spending $40 on this game though…
Street Fighter II had the best soundtrack of any fighting game in my opinion. It’s only matched by Street Fighter V. When I listen to Guile’s iconic theme song at the air-force base I get nostalgic. Hearing him shout, “Sonic Boom” gets me every time.
Ryu, Ken, Chun Li, Guile, and Bison are a few of the classic lineup of characters in this game. I do miss playing as Nash, and Necalli. The roster here is amazing and since I play as both E. Honda, and Blanka again has me very happy.
The Final Challengers is a really good looking game on the big screen, and in portable mode. The only downside is the performance. This game can’t keep a stable 30 fps. It drops frames frequently while I play and it’s even cost me a few matches. I appreciate the option of being able to play with the classic graphics, but I stuck with the fresh coat of paint and regretted it because of the major fps issues I’ve had with the game. If Breath of The Wild can work flawlessly on the Switch I don’t see why old ass Street Fighter II can’t.
The Final Challengers plays like shit. It constantly lags during matches and I’ve lost many times because of it. No one plays this online because it’s a known issue and Capcom has done nothing to fix it. I’m not surprised because Street Fighter V still has performance issues too…
I can’t recommend this game to the most die hard Street Fighter fans. Capcom took advantage of the lack of fighting games on the Switch and shot the price way up on this game. If this game released today for any other platform no one would buy it at $40 because there are many more options to choose from.
Street Fighter 2: The Final Challengers is a fun game and my love for Street Fighter 2 will never fade away, but this game overpriced, and runs like shit. Add the $40 price tag and you’ve got yourself a good ripoff from Capcom. It’s up to you if you’re going to buy it, but I recommend waiting for something else to pop up on the Switch. This game isn’t worth buying in it’s current state and it pains me to write that.
