What Is The Best Platform Of 2015?

Spread the Word!

2015 is nearing an end and every game worth something, in my opinion, has already been released. So what’s the best platform of 2015?

A lot of really good games released this year for every platform, but which one is the winner for 2015? I’m not counting third part games in this list for obvious reasons.

5. Playstation 4

This should surprise no one. The Playstation 4 is really lacking in the exclusives department and only one game of note has released all year long for it with Bloodborne, but that one game alone isn’t enough to make me go out and buy a PS4 when I can get a good majority of it’s games on PC.

The Playstation 4 is a good example of a overhyped console with very little to show for it. Don’t take that as me bashing the PS4 because I’m not, but it’s disappointing when compared to every other platform on my list.

4. Xbox One

Xbox one

Microsoft really stepped up their game this year by giving us a new UI, backwards compatibility, and a bunch of exclusives, but I haven’t purchased a new game on my X1 since June and I don’t plan on buying a new game for it until next year. The end of this year was stacked with really great games and the Xbox exclusives kind of got lost in the storm in my opinion. I do want Rise of The Tomb Raider, and Halo 5, but I can wait until they’re on sale.

3. 3DS

This is a nice surprise for me this year. I didn’t think I would purchase so many 3DS games this year, but the hits just kept coming out and my wallet was literally screaming at one point. Monster Hunter 4, Etrian Odyssey Untold 2, Yo Kai Watch, Super Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, and many other games have found their way into my 3DS library this year. Next year is another big year with Fire Emblem, and a new Pokemon game.

2. PC

The PC has been dethroned this year. If I was judging third party titles this would be the number 1 platform because third party games are the best on PC, but exclusive wise I wasn’t all that impressed with this year’s games. Obviously I can’t list all of the exclusives because there are so many, but I can list the ones I’ve brought this year.

Pillars of Eternity, Total War Attila, Sword Coast Legends, and Shadowrun Hong Kong are all quality purchases that I’ve made on PC this year.

  1. Wii U

This surprised me. I didn’t expect to love Nintendo’s games as much as I did this year. Yoshi’s Woolly World, The Devil’s Third, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Super Mario Maker, and Fatal Frame are all quality titles. Xenoblade Chronicles X, and Yoshi’s Woolly World are GOTY contenders and will be high up on my top 10 games of 2015 this year. Xenoblade really shows off what the Wii U is capable of and it’s the most stable game I’ve played all year long, right next to Mad Max on PC.

I’ve done just as much gaming on my Wii U as I did my PC this year and that surprised me. The Wii U is extremely underrated and it’s offered some fantastic games this year. Most people think it’s just a “kid” console, but games like Xenoblade, Bayonetta, and Fatal Frame prove that it’s not, but that’s just my opinion.

What is your platform of the year?

I don’t disagree with the list entirely, but I think more exclusives released for the PS4 outside of Bloodborne. That’s definitely *the* biggest, but Until Dawn, Rocket League, and Axiom Verge, were all met with widespread acclaim and sold considerably well. Even still, that’s just 4 games. Unless you’re not considering Rocket League and Axiom, due to their availability on PC.

Aside from Yo-kai Watch, I didn’t find much to play in 2015 on my 3DS, so I spent it hitting up the backlog instead. Not doubting its lineup, though. I felt the same about Xbox One. The “best lineup of games in Xbox history” didn’t really speak to me outside of Tomb Raider. Not in to Forza, Halo 5’s campaign was severely disappointing, and I didn’t even touch Rare Replay after the first day. Gears UE wasn’t interesting since I already own all 4 games. Fable was pushed to 2016.

Wii U clearly had the most impressive exclusive line-up. I can’t argue with that in any way.

Rocket League doesn’t count because it’s on PC and that’s a platform too. Until Dawn… looks terrible. I’ll leave it at that. So does Axium Verge which is also on PC so that leaves one game on the list that I actually want and it’s Bloodborne. The PS4 has done nothing to impress me or sway me over to it over better platforms in my opinion.

“The best lineup in Xbox history” is a joke. I’m not a Halo fan, but my wife wants the game and I’ll get it for her eventually :]. The only I want on the Xbox at the moment is Tomb Raider, but it released at a really bad time in my opinion.

The Wii U is just awesome :].

I’m not surprised that the PS4 games sold well. There wasn’t anything else coming to PS4 at the time. Their exclusives are pretty barren when compared to all the other platforms.

As a core console gamer, I don’t really play anything on PC. Undertale was it this year lol. Axiom Verge and Rocket League are definitely in my top 5 this year, but I played both on PS4 instead of PC. Until Dawn was surprisingly good. I hate David Cage games, but enjoyed Until Dawn enough to see it through on 3 different occasions.

Tomb Raider was it for me as well, but yeah, horrible timing. One day.

I think Microsoft/Square underestimated the Fallout fanbase with that release date :]. That’s really to bad because I want Tomb Raider. I’m sure it’s a really great game, but it should have released this month not last month.

Since Microsoft had some sort of exclusivity contract with Square, I’m not sure who picked that release date, but it was a horrible idea. They knew the Fallout 4 date before it was confirmed at E3 in June, and the two big games sandwiching them (Black Ops 3 and Battlefront) were confirmed back in April. Terrible, terrible idea to not just delay it until December.

It’s clearly selling like crap too. Tomb Raider’s reboot in 2013 released alongside a new Gears of War, God of War, and Bioshock Infinite and still managed to sell over 6 million copies.

It didn’t sell 6 million right away though. I remember Square announcing how disappointed they were with the original sales. It took a port to X1 and PS4 to reach that. The last time I looked at the sales it was over 8 million, but I believe that’s with the definitive edition.

Developers should know by now not to release their games around Star Wars, Call of Duty, and Fallout. Especially Star Wars, and Fallout since it’s been so long since we’ve had another game from them.

Tomb Raider in 2013 also released in March, which was probably a better time, and was on three different platforms. Maybe Microsoft just overestimated Tomb Raider’s popularity, I don’t know.

Thought I don’t have a WiiU, I hear so many people talk about its games (esp, Mario Maker) that you have to give kudos to Nintendo for their efforts.

The Wii U has some amazing titles and got some really quality exclusives this year. At the moment all I need is my PC, and Wii U for the exclusives :].

Despite a slow start I have not regretted getting a PS4 this year. Bloodborne was awesome and the console has niche Japanese games that I like. Looks like the 3DS will get a lot of my attention in 2016. Bravely Default 2 is out in Feb along with some other RPGs I am interested in.

I completely forgot about Bravely Default 2 :]. I can’t wait to play that :].

Hopefully the PS4 will get better, but I have no reason to one as of right now.
