I’ve been kind of quiet here since the new year started. That wasn’t my intention. I planned to make this year one of the best ones yet for me since last year was such a downer, but it’s kind of hard to do that with no PC. That’s right… my laptop is broken and I have no way of fixing it right now.
My laptop was my pride and joy. I took super good care of it for years, but these things tend to happen. When I was homeless I had to pawn my laptop for a little while so I could have money to live off of. When I got it back my laptop could no longer hold a charge, but everything else seemed to work perfectly… until recently, anyway. At first I thought it was just a windows 10 problem because windows 10 has all kinds of bugs and issues with every update. Sadly, that was not the case. The hard drive on my laptop went out and that means I have to buy a new one, a copy of windows 10 (I got the free download some time ago), and a new battery. I estimated that it’ll cost me anywhere between $400-500 to fix my laptop and I don’t have that kind of money lying around. I have 4 kids and it’ll take me some time to be able to join the ranks of PC gamers again. And it really sucks only having two consoles to game on because I prefer gaming on PC.
Gaming isn’t the only thing I use my laptop for though. I also run this blog from there and I can’t do that anymore. I’m using my wife’s laptop now, but there’s nothing like getting on your own computer. I don’t like using anyone else’s things. I’m not going away for an extended amount of time like I did last year. I’m not homeless, depressed or anything like that right now. I’m debating between fixing my laptop or just buying a new one and fixing this one some time down the line.
I haven’t been doing much gaming lately. What little gaming I have been doing has gone towards both my Switch and PS4. I’m currently playing Smash Ultimate and Monster Hunter World. I love Monster Hunter World to death and I’ve made a pretty good dent in the game. I’ve unlocked a few maps, I have good gear, and I love playing with other hunters and murdering shit. It’s really fun and I really, really, love the hammer. That thing hits hard and is pretty fast too. Smash Ultimate is… alright I guess. I really don’t like the single player mode or any of the spirit bullshit that’s been added to the game. I finally unlocked every character, but I’m already kind of burned out on the game and I don’t think I even have 10 hours in it. Yes, there are a shit ton of characters in this game, but this isn’t a great game in my opinion. Nintendo butchered the single player mode in this game. it also doesn’t have much content. I’m not surprised though because every first party Nintendo game that I played last year was a huge disappointment and so far this game, while good, isn’t what I thought it would be.
Playing multiplayer is fun and all, but so is playing multiplayer in any fighting game to me. I would rather play Injustice 2 or Soul Calibur VI on my PS4 over Smash. I’ll even settle for some Pokken Tournament. I’m not saying the game is terrible or anything like that. It’s just not great in any way. It IS a fun game though. I enjoy playing it. I’m just not sure where I would rank it amongst other Smash games. I need more time with it :).
Most of my time has gone to reading on my Fire 10. I signed up to Comixology and I love it. I have access to so many DC comics. I told myself I would read a single Aquaman comic and I ended up reading 2 graphic novels that have about 4 stories a piece. They’re really freaking good and it’s nice to see Aquaman getting some love these days. I mean… his comics has always been fantastic, but I haven’t read them in a while so I’m playing catch up. I started with the rebirth series, but since only one book is free at the moment I switched to the new 52 and I’m on the second book right now. It’s not as interesting as Rebirth in my opinion, but I’m still REALLY enjoying it. I really feel for Arthur because he doesn’t get enough respect from anyone and is constantly made fun of, but he’s a really great guy that just wants to do good and live life his way. He doesn’t want to be king of Atlantis in new 52. He just wants to live on the surface with Mera, but not everything always go the way you want it to. I really enjoyed what I’ve read so far and I’m planning on doing a piece on both of these books as well as the games I mentioned above. I’ve also read through Tom King’s Batman (excellent series) and I read some really horrible Vampirilla books. She’s basically a female Blade. I read 4, or 5, of those because I was hoping that they would get good, but every time I something interesting came up the writers would fuck it up. I might do a piece on them, but that would mean re-reading through the ones I read and I really don’t want to do that.
And that’s about it. What have you been up to? Anything gaming related? Movies? Books? Or just real life shit. Let me know!
