So Sony (finally) announced the prices of their two Playstation 5 consoles along with some games for everyone to look forward to, but there’s a real lack of exclusives/ reasons to rush out and buy one right now in my opinion. Here’s what I think of everything that was shown off.
I wonder where all of the people that were making fun of Microsoft for not having any exclusives are? There’s a bunch of timed exclusives as well as games that are also releasing on the PS4 so there’s no real reason to rush out and buy a PS5 unless you’re a super hardcore Sony fan. You’ll be fine with your PS4 because the new Horizon game and Miles Moralez Spider-Man is releasing on PS4. The biggest news of the day had to be the Demon’s Souls and Final Fantasy 16 announcements.
I’m pretty sure that Final Fantasy 16 is only a timed exclusive to the PS5. Especially since there was very, very tiny text at the bottom that hinted that it would be dropping on PC at some point, but I see no reason (other than money) that Square Enix would completely eliminate the Xbox since they’ve been pushing their Final Fantasy games on Game Pass recently. Sony quickly reached out to Square Enix for damage control because shortly after the trailer dropped Square Enix refused to confirm the existence of any Final Fantasy 16 platforms other than Playstation’s.
Demon’s Souls is in a similar boat. I lost my shit when I saw that it was also launching on PC at a later date, but Sony quickly “corrected” that mistake and said that it’s going to be a Playstation 5 exclusive. Similar to Bloodborne. The problem is I don’t believe them. They pulled the same thing with both Horizon Zero Dawn and Death Stranding. Even though we all knew Death Stranding was a timed exclusive to the PS4 Sony tried to fool everyone into thinking that it wasn’t. Like a week later it was confirmed that it would be launching on PC the following year and shortly after that Horizon Zero Dawn was also announced for PC.
I think the mistake (for Demon’s Souls) was the text that stated it would also be coming to other consoles not the PC part of it. Sony owns Demon’s Souls and Sony has stated that they want to bring more games to the PC platform. Demon’s Souls would sell like crazy on Steam and make Sony a lot of money.
So what does the Playstation 5 have that you can’t get on a different platform at launch? Demon’s Souls (if Sony is to be believed anyway). Not even Godfall is exclusive to Playstation. Yet hardcore Playstation fans were making fun of Xbox for months because it “had no real next-gen games” and ” everything is also going to be on the Xbox One” and yet… that’s the exact same thing that’s happening with Sony’s Playstation 5. The only true Playstation 5 exclusive might be God of War Ragnorok and I’m not 100% sure on that one. We don’t know if that’s also going to be on PS4 or not.
It’s completely normal for new consoles to launch with games that are shared with the previous generation. Assassin’s Creed Blackflag was on the PS3 and Xbox 360 as well as the Xbox One and PS4. It’s going to be the same for this generation because Sony doesn’t want to alienate 100+ million users on their current system.
The Playstation 5 will undoubtedly sell very well, but you don’t really have to rush out and buy one right now because most of the games will be available on your PS4 and other platforms.
