The wait it finally over. I managed to get about 3 hours of gameplay down before I decided to write my first impression of the game and I have to admit that I haven’t really accomplished much in such a short amount of time.
This is my first time stepping into the world of Xenoblade Chronicles. I’m not a long time fan of the series or familiar with the lore of the game world. I got this game because it looked like a pretty good RPG and so far it’s delivering.
Xenoblade Chronicles X looks really good. It’s easily the best looking title that the Wii U has so far. The world makes Fallout 4 look small in comparison. I’m only on the first map, but there is no end in sight. I’ve been running around for hours doing things and I haven’t gotten anywhere yet. It’s one big, beautiful space that’s filled with all sorts of monsters for me to slay… well die from anyway.
I’ve died about 20 times in three hours because I’m an idiot. I like to fight big ass monsters and they usually end up tossing me aside like yesterday’s newspaper. There are big monsters and then there’s your giant monsters. I haven’t had the courage to approach one of those things yet, but give me time. At first I struggled with the controls of the game because the camera felt stiff to me. Once I maximized the sensitivity I was good to go and I started winning more battles.
So far this game is harder then I thought it would be. It’s not Dark Souls kind of hard, but it’s more challenging then games like The Witcher 3, and Fallout 4 in my opinion. My gear sucks and the monsters take very little damage from me and my companions. I don’t mind because it makes me use everything in my arsenal to win fights.
I’m not going to get into the story because I’ve only done two missions so far and honestly I have no idea what the fuck is going on half the time.
The soundtrack is a mix between hip hop, pop, and fantasy music. I’m not sure how I feel about that yet because I’m not a fan of either genre, but I’m keeping an open mind about it because I’m at the very beginning of the game.
I’m not sure I’ve ever played a game as big as this one before. It was a little intimidating at first because I had no idea what I was doing, but I decided to focus on side quest and explore along the way.
Xenoblade Chronicles X is a beautiful game. I stood on top of a giant mountain and was amazed at how good the world looked on the Wii U. It’s optimized perfectly so far too. I haven’t experienced any issues with FPS or stuttering of any kind and that’s saying something with a game this size.
My first impression of this game is a good one so far and I can’t wait to jump back in and explore more of this beautiful world.
