Year In Review 19

Year In Review and Future of My Blog Moving Forward in 2018

Spread the Word!

2017 is behind us! It was a good year for gaming and a great year for my blog. And that brings me to some news about my blog moving forward this year. I am leaving WordPress and moving on to bigger and better things.

I’ve been thinking about leaving WordPress for a few years now. I want more freedom with my blog and the recent article that I worked on with NekoJonez made me make my decision faster than I would have on my own. WordPress made it clear to me that they don’t care about the content that other people have stolen/will steal in the future from me and other writers. I’m paying them for my domain name and I was even planning on upgrading my membership with them so I would have more space on my blog, but I’ve changed my mind on that. I’m leaving WordPress and will be looking for a new host for my content in the near future. That’s enough about that, for now, it’s time for some good news.

In 2017 I completed 40 games and reviewed 32 of them. I tried, and failed, to watch more movies/TV this year and tried, and failed, to write more about things that aren’t gaming. Can’t win them all I guess. I wrote 203 posts in 2017 and it was the best year I’ve ever had on my blog in all categories.

Fancy stats aren’t everything. I really appreciate everyone that takes time out of their day to read what I post here. I appreciate every comment, like, shout out, and friends I got to make while doing this. I’m part of a great group of writers on Facebook and I love scrolling down the reader to see what everyone else is doing to their amazing blogs. I was part of an awesome podcast with CheapBossAttack and Chuck from Counter Attack Games!

My most popular post, which should come as no surprise by now, is my Skyrim mods articles. Here are my top 10 posts of 2017

Skyrim Special Edition – Sexy Edition – 77,041

Top 5 Weekly Skyrim Mods Sexy Edition Part 2! – 2,942

Top 5 Fallout 4 Mods – Sexy Edition Part 3! – 2,030

Mods and sex people… mods and sex…

That brings us to the search terms that people use to find this stuff.

Instead of writing it all just look at the screen capture…

And even more sex! Well.. nudes, but I’m pretty sure they’re for sex 🙂

Some notable post that I read this year are

Lightning Ellen did a fantastic write up of her playthrough of Dragon Age: Origins. Origins is one of the best games I’ve ever played and I really enjoyed reading through her experiences. She’s currently playing Inquisition and just did a year in review of her own blog too.

I always enjoy my regular visits to CheapBossAttack’s weekly series of It’s The Freakin’ Weekend! I enjoy reading the comments to see what everyone is playing on the weekends and I love sharing what I’m doing too. It’s a conversation between writers and it’s fun. If you haven’t checked him out yet you should. He’s a great writer and awesome guy to talk to.

NekoJonez has had a rough few days trying to have his stolen post removed from other sites. He’s a great dude that I’ve had the pleasure of talking to, almost every day now, on Facebook about various topics. He’s awesome and I enjoy my frequent visits to his blog and reading about some of the neat games that he’s playing.

I Played The Game is a great blog to visit for some laid back gaming articles from a guy, like myself, who has kids and doesn’t have a ton of time to game but makes every free second count. His post is always great and I really enjoyed his Xcom War Logs series that he had going on.

The Shameful Narcissist is a great writer and lover of all things retro. She knows more about Final Fantasy than anyone I know, and just wrote her top 10 games of 2017 that didn’t really release in 2017 :). It’s a neat list and anything with the Mass Effect Trilogy in it is going to get some love from me. I seriously need to play Soma. Everyone tells me how great it is, but I keep ignoring it. Maybe one day…

I’m so sorry if I didn’t mention you above. I would be up writing all night if I wrote about everyone that I love to follow. I love you all

I’m really looking forward to what 2018 has in store for me and this blog that I love so much. I plan on trying to come up with some new series to write about. I’ve already come up with two neat ones. I have an ongoing Adventures of series that is focused on Skyrim right now and a new Modding Showcase series… that’s also focused on Skyrim. I plan on branching out both series into other games and seeing where it goes.

Thank you all for reading and have a great 2018!

I hear ya. I’ve contemplated leaving WordPress simply because I don’t like allowing anonymous comments and the only way it supports Disqus is via self-hosted paid mode. I’m good. I just don’t know where else to go. I didn’t like tumblr or Blogger, but I see a lot of folks using Medium now.

Best of luck in the next blogging chapter.

I’ve been considering Blue Host, Go Daddy, Blue Host is at the top right now because it allows me to transfer my entire domain over and I won’t have to start from scratch. And it would be nice to have more control over my blog too.

Will you still be using WordPress to create the blog and just using Blue Host for the domain?

Yep. The big difference is I’ll be able to monetize my blog and make more money from it than I do now. All of my content will be transferred over :).

Thank you for the shout out!

I love the screen grab of the search engine hits that basically sums up the internet in a single image.

I fully understand why you’re interested in leaving WordPress. I know a lot of people use Blogger but I don’t know if it’s any good. Will you post on here to let everyone know where you head to?

The good news is I won’t be leaving this blog behind. I’m moving it to a new host. I’m taking all of my content with me so when you look me up it’ll just transfer you to my new host :).

My search results are usually pretty funny.

My favourite from last year was “What are the demons in DOOM saying”.

I think that reader left disappointed…

I’ve got some like that too. I’ll never forget when someone searched for Pokemon porn and found me…

Aw man, I’m sorry to hear about you leaving WordPress, but I understand. You’re not the first person I know to have issues with the site for other reasons. I had my blog locked one time because they thought I was posting spam. Granted it was a misunderstanding, but I was irritated because it’s an automatic thing if it falls under some kind of algorithm. I was lucky though. One of my writer friends had her block locked with all of her work on it, and she was finally able to negotiate the ability to remove it. They said something about advertising your own work on the blog, which makes no damn sense, but whatever. I hope you let us know where you wind up.

I appreciate the shout out! I know Final Fantasy isn’t your favorite series, but I’m glad you’re someone who can respect what other people like. One of the good things about WP are the folks I’ve met and interacted with here. I had no idea there could be people who disagreed about something, but didn’t resort to childish name calling or one-up-manship. I’m nearing 40 and I’ve long grown out of that shit. I just want to have discussions with like minded people. We don’t have to agree on everything, but mutual respect is necessary.

May awesome gaming continue into 2018!

290,000 views. That’s awesome. I was over the moon with 17,000 last year but then it was only my second year. Well done. I enjoy your posts although I don’t get to do much gaming these days. I only have time to read about other people gaming. I’ve got Mass Effect on the go but that’s about all I have time for after work and husband/father duties. Good luck finding a new home for your thoughts.

In my second I got a little over 220k views. I’ll give you a little hint about getting more views. Tag your post well. Whatever you can think of that has anything to do with what you’re writing about should be listed in your tags :).

How are you enjoying Mass Effect? Which one are you playing?

      And thank you :).

Thanks for the advice. That’s great. I’ve really only just started Mass Effect Andromeda as I only just now got an Xbox One. Loving it so far. The first trilogy was probably my favourite gaming experience ever so it’s nice to be back in that Universe.

I feel the same way about the first trilogy and even Andromeda some times. It’s a great game that’s slow to start, but finishes strong. I love the Mass Effect series so much that I wrote a post on why I love it so much :). It was on N7 Day too so that made it extra special to me.
